‘I Have a Dream” 2020: New Message of Peace
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
Dr. Martin Luther King spoke these prophetic words during his famous “I Have a Dream” speech during the American civil rights movement. Dr. King clearly describes a colorblind future for the United States and the world.
Today, in the state of Israel and the Middle East, it is time to articulate a new dream of equality, fairness, non-discrimination, and freedom for all people:
“I have a dream today that Israel will become a nation in which all citizens are entitled to equal justice under law and equal value in the eyes of God.”
“I have a dream that a Jewish and democratic state will arise in which Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jews with have equal standing and equal opportunity along with Ethiopian Jews and Russian Jews, Persian Jews and Mizrahi Jews and Yemenite Jews. We must be a state in which all Jewish people are created equal before our Creator.”
“I have a dream that peace will prevail between Jews and Arabs; between Palestinians and Israelis. I dream that the disagreement and discord will be replaced by a symphony of peace and mutual respect. I have a dream today!”
“I have a dream that the Prime Minister of Israel and the President of Palestine will sit down together at the table of brotherhood.”
“I have a dream today that the Israel Defense Forces will be transformed into a mighty peace-force which promotes freedom, human rights, mutual love, and fundamental decency. The IDF must be transformed into a champion of peace between Arabs and Jews!”
“As I look over the city of Jerusalem from the Temple Mount, I have a dream that the fire of war will be transformed into an ocean of peace. For if we proceed towards the shadow of war all of our hopes and dreams will become ashes in our mouths.”
“I have a dream that Ramallah and Tel Aviv will become sister cities marching towards social justice, mutual humanity, and universal human rights.”
“I have a dream that Gaza, Beersheva, and Haifa will come together as cities of light, joy, and peace.”
“I have a dream today that the Torah and the Quran will jointly proclaim God’s message of harmony, sisterhood, brotherhood, and friendship in a new Middle East.”
“I have a dream that the spirits of Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres will descend from the heavens above like doves of peace to bring unity and understanding between Israelis and Palestinians. I have a dream today!”
“I have a dream that Arabs and Jews will join together to sing the Israeli national anthem, HaTikvah, for the promised land which is flowing with milk and honey.”
“The sons and daughters of Abraham the Patriarch must rise up with the power of the Prophet Moses, with the strength of King David, and with the courage of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him); To give peaceful meaning to the relationship between Arabs and Jews.”
“May the enemy called war be transformed into the friend called peace.”
“May the land of the free and the home of the brave cry out for the victory of freedom, fairness, revelation, truth, and salvation.”
“I have a dream that all of God’s children; Arabs and Jews, Ashkenazi and Sephardi, Ethiopian and Russian, Druze and Bedouin, women and men, will live together in harmony, pray together in holiness, and share God’s land of peace.”
“We must strive together to transform this dream of hope into a remarkable reality of freedom for all.“
“In the final redemption, we shall all sing together in the words of that old African American spiritual: ‘Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty! The Middle East is free at last!’”
