Nurses, physicians, and patients are forced to work and room together
Healthcare workers are sworn to a common goal. Ethnicity, emotions, and gender of people are non-issues in that commitment.
Therefore, there is Shalom in our hospitals. Even during war. Even when a wounded terrorist is brought in for treatment. He might not get hugs or sweets from the staff and will not be roomed with his wounded victims, but he’ll get the best medical treatment available.
This isn’t from indifference or an inability to differentiate between villains and victims. Rather, this is from a deep commitment to all of humanity.
Just like people addicted to bad food, recreational drugs, and electronic media get the best healthcare without sermons on guilt or blame.
Antisemites, racists, homophobes, transphobes, sexists, and moralists have the worst time in our hospitals. They really suffer. But the rest, the decent majority, enjoys the humane treatment they all receive jointly.
This is just like my Jewish father as the personal, dedicated physician to the commander of the concentration camp and guards who ensured the genocide’s efficiency. When I asked him if that had been hard, he said: I had sworn an oath to heal people; the rest is politics, and I can’t help it.
This is just like all of Judaism. The Sages teach us we’re told the story of Adam and Eve, not because it happened. So much happened we’re not told about. Moses wrote about the first humans to tell us: Let no one imagine to come from more or less prominent roots than any other.
This revolutionary idea became the bedrock of equality and impartiality. Which are the foundations of representative democracy and blind justice.
There is still ground for improvement. The cleaners are all Muslim. Most of the night staff are Russian Gentiles and Arab Muslims. Rich people can buy themselves the attention of the best doctors. This inequality is all from wicked, worldwide capitalism that even reigns Russia, China, and the US.
Health care is populated with people, so it doesn’t function in a vacuum. They influence society in total and vice versa. Bigots suffer everywhere.
Yet, in healthcare systems, you see G^d’s Hand like nowhere else. May this inspire world peace outside of doctor’s offices and bring our Redeemer.
