Ipanema Beach marks 3 years since Hamas attack, honors Nova Festival victims
Installation recreates on Rio’s sand the memorial erected at the site of the electronic music festival and remembers the three Brazilians murdered in the attack
This Wednesday, October 7, the date that marks three years since Hamas’s attack on southern Israel, Ipanema Beach hosted a tribute to the victims of the Nova Festival.
At Posto 10 (Lifeguard Station 10), a replica of the memorial set up at the festival site was displayed, in which the victims are remembered through 397 plaques bearing photographs of each person murdered, along with flowers symbolizing memory, mourning, and resilience.
A banner reading “6:29 – The moment the music stopped” also was installed on Ipanema Beach.
The initiative is organized by StandWithUs Brasil.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists invaded southern Israel, killing around 1,200 people and abducting 251.
At the Nova Festival, which had brought together thousands of young people to celebrate music and peace, 378 people were murdered. Another 44 were taken hostage; of these, 19 died on the day of the attack or later, in captivity.
Among the festival’s victims were three Brazilians: Bruna Valeanu, Karla Stelzer Mendes, and Ranani Glazer. The tribute in Rio de Janeiro is also an act of remembrance for them and their families.
