Is antisemitism our future? What should we do?
In face of the Hanukkah massacre in Australia, and similar killings elsewhere in recent days, we need to ask ourselves some tough questions.
- Is the wave of antisemitic violence in the West going to:
a. Subside after Israel’s present wars end, and return to “normal” levels.
* just subside and be satisfied if Israel is stopped from completing its victories and the fighting ends.
* get defeated by education against antisemitism and the Holocaust, such as ADL does.
* get whipped badly ideologically. E.g., suppose Israel really won its wars against the Islamists – not just hurt Iran’s Islamic Republic and its proxies like Hezbollah, but destroyed them. Suppose the new powers in those places would act to discredit the Islamists. Would the many Westerners, who have been fashionably supporting those Islamist regimes, be isolated and shamed? Would the media and universities become friends of the Jews again?
* get defeated by a bigger struggle in the educational world: a struggle to defeat, de-hire, and replace the professors and journalists who fuel all the fashionable ideologies that support anti-Semitism today — the hard Leftists, anti-Westerners, anti-colonialists, Third Worldists, Islamists (aka militant Islam, Islamic nationalism, political Islam), Christianists (from Tucker Carlson to Putin), hard Rightists …
b. Or will the antisemitism continue and get worse.
* continue indefinitely, with various ups and downs
* subside on the surface, but entrench deeper under the surface ready to reactivate at a moment’s notice — and worse the next time around. (This is what the New Left did after it seemingly subsided in the ’70s with the end of the war in Vietnam. It remained in academia and media. It quietly grew stronger there. It took up new anti-Western causes, including Islamism. This is how we got to where we are today with the anti-Semitism.)
* keep getting worse, without any real interruption
- Suppose the antisemitism continues indefinitely and gets worse. Should Jews in the West be thinking about:
* moving to Israel. (To be sure, it’s always been more dangerous for Jews there than here, but the balance is changing with unprecedented speed, and could tip the other way soon.)
* moving to some part of the world where there is no historic or religious animosity to Jews, maybe East Asia
* fleeing to countries such as Argentina that for now have pro-Jewish governments
* all moving to Florida and making sure to win the elections there
* setting up entire cities and regions as gated communities. Building a New Masada fortress.
* joining wholesale in the political war over academia and the media. Supporting President Trump’s war to massively overhaul the media and universities. Dethrone all those ideologies — mostly Leftist, but also more and more Rightist at this time — that promote anti-Semitism. Try to limit the collateral damage, but have the course to fire most of the ideologues. Find credible professorial, administrative, and journalistic replacements. Help the replacement people develop replacement narratives and curricula, ones that will on the whole support Western civilization and at the same time have solid academic quality and credibility.
