Israel Alone Against the Houthis
The US bombed the Houthis over 1,000 times, and the attacks on international shipping continued. Israel sent 20 jets over 2,000 km to bomb Sanaa airport—and the Houthi attacks stopped. Then the US arranged a ceasefire that didn’t require the Houthis to stop firing missiles at Israel. Abandoned again?
No. This is not abandonment. This is Israel’s destiny.
Israel was meant to stand alone. “Behold, it is a nation that shall dwell alone” (Bamidbar 23:9). From Avraham Avinu, who stood on one side while the world stood on the other, we inherited this sacred destiny—Levado—to live not by the world’s approval, but by God’s truth.
Rav Yerucham Levovitz teaches that just as God is whole and independent, so too the Jewish People must be alone in the world. Rav Nosson Wachtfogel recalled the Chofetz Chaim’s message: Alein davenen, alein lernen, alein shteigin—you must grow, pray, and rise, alone.
Elijah, when seeking God’s presence, discovered that God is not in the wind, not in the earthquake, nor in the fire—but in the still, small voice (Melachim I 19:12). God’s Voice is heard in our aloneness–political and personal solitude. God can be heard in the quiet courage of a people who stand firm in who they are.
The Talmud teaches in Sotah 49b, “אין לנו על מי להישען אלא על אבינו שבשמים” — We have no one to rely upon but our Father in Heaven.
This is not loneliness…rather, it is Aloneness.
Israel’s isolation is not a weakness. It is a message to the world: national and personal success are achieved not from alliances, but through a relationship with The One who sent each of us here, with our agreement, to do a unique job that no-one else can do.
To walk alone with God… is to pursue our national, and our personal mission and destiny…..to never be alone at all.
