‘Israel, Iran, and the Eternal Battle of Light Against Darkness’

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran is not merely a geopolitical struggle—it is a spiritual battle as old as time itself. From the days of Purim, when Haman (a descendant of Amalek) sought to destroy the Jewish people, to modern-day Iran’s threats of annihilation, the Jewish nation has faced enemies who embody the same ancient hatred. The Torah teaches us that Am Yisrael (the People of Israel) are Hashem’s chosen nation, and those who rise against us do not merely fight flesh and blood, but the Divine will itself. As King David declared:

“ה’ מָעוֹז לִֽי וּמְצוּדָה לִי בְּיוֹם צָרָה”

“Hashem is my stronghold and my fortress in time of distress.” (Jeremiah 16:19)

Iran, the modern heir to Persia, continues the legacy of Haman, seeking to eradicate the Jewish state. But just as Hashem delivered us from Pharaoh, from Haman, and from every oppressor throughout history, He will not abandon His people today.

The Iranian regime openly calls for Israel’s destruction, funding terror groups like Hamas and Hezbollah while pursuing nuclear weapons. Their rhetoric is not just political—it is a spiritual war against Hashem’s covenant with the Jewish people. The Torah identifies Amalek as the eternal enemy of Israel, attacking the weak and denying Divine providence:

“זָכוֹר אֵת אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה לְךָ עֲמָלֵק… תִּמְחֶה אֶת זֵכֶר עֲמָלֵק”

“Remember what Amalek did to you… you shall obliterate the memory of Amalek.” (Deuteronomy 25:17-19)

Iran embodies this Amalekite spirit—denying Jewish history, threatening genocide, and spreading chaos. But just as Mordechai and Esther triumphed over Haman, Israel will prevail.

The reestablishment of the State of Israel in 1948 was a Divine miracle, fulfilling the prophecies of Ezekiel and Isaiah. The Torah promises that those who bless Israel will be blessed, and those who curse Israel will be cursed (Genesis 12:3). Iran’s leaders, in their arrogance, defy this eternal decree.

“הִנֵּה לֹא יָנוּם וְלֹא יִישָׁן שׁוֹמֵר יִשְׂרָאֵל”

“Behold, the Guardian of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.” (Psalms 121:4)

Israel’s military strength, intelligence, and technological prowess are not merely human achievements—they are manifestations of Hashem’s protection. When Iran launches missiles, Hashem turns them aside. When terrorists plot, their schemes are exposed. This is the hidden miracle of Jewish survival.

Some argue that Israel should show restraint, but the Torah commands us:

“אִם בָּא לְהָרְגֶךָ, הַשְׁכֵּם לְהָרְגוֹ”

“If someone comes to kill you, rise early and kill him first.” (Sanhedrin 72a)

Iran’s nuclear ambitions and terror proxies pose an existential threat. Israel has not only the right but the sacred obligation to defend itself. The story of Purim teaches that we must act—through prayer and through strength. Esther fasted and approached the king. The Maccabees fought and prayed. Today, Israel’s soldiers are modern-day Maccabees, fulfilling the mitzvah of “לא תעמוד על דם רעך” (“Do not stand idly by the blood of your neighbor” – Leviticus 19:16).

The prophets foresaw a time when the enemies of Israel would fall, and the world would recognize Hashem’s sovereignty. Isaiah prophesied:

“וְהָיָה בַּיּוֹם הַהוּא אָשִׂים אֶת יְרוּשָׁלִַם אֶבֶן מַעֲמָסָה לְכָל הָעַמִּים”

“On that day, I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all nations… all who try to move it will be severely injured.” (Zechariah 12:3)

Iran’s aggression will ultimately lead to its own downfall, just as Pharaoh’s stubbornness brought the plagues upon Egypt. The Jewish people, through faith and courage, will witness the fulfillment of:

“כִּי יַעֲמֹד עַם בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְנִשְׁאַר גַּם הוּא”

“The nation of Israel shall rise and remain, even against all odds.” (Numbers 23:24)

The war between Israel and Iran is not just another Middle East conflict—it is a cosmic struggle between light and darkness, between the will of Hashem and the forces of evil. The Jewish people, as Hashem’s chosen nation, will emerge victorious because our survival is guaranteed by Divine promise.

As we face these challenges, let us remember the words of King David:

“ה’ יִלָּחֵם לָכֶם וְאַתֶּם תַּחֲרִישׁוּן”

“Hashem will fight for you, and you shall remain silent.” (Exodus 14:14)

But “remaining silent” does not mean inaction—it means trusting in Hashem while doing our part. Israel will defend itself, the Jewish people will endure, and the day will come when all nations recognize the truth:

“כִּי מִצִּיּוֹן תֵּצֵא תוֹרָה, וּדְבַר ה’ מִירוּשָׁלִָם”

“For from Zion shall come forth Torah, and the word of Hashem from Jerusalem.” (Isaiah 2:3)

May we soon see the downfall of all who hate Israel and the dawn of the final redemption. Am Yisrael Chai!
