Israel Is Now Ruled by a Totalitarian Government

For a long time, Israelis have believed that Israel is a traditional democracy with three separate, independent branches of government – legislative, executive, and judicial. That belief is false and it is a myth. Due to the fact that the prime minister ALWAYS comes from the ruling coalition in Knesset means that no separation exists between the legislative and executive branches. Both the effective legislative and executive branches derive from exactly the same power base. The laws of the legislature and the policies of the cabinet are ALWAYS in sync. One provides no check or balance on the other. The leadership of both is ALWAYS united.

In reality, that means that Israel only has two branches of government which must be independent of each other in order to create a democracy – on one side the legislative/executive and, on the other side, the judiciary. Without an independent judiciary, Israel does not have a democracy. If the judiciary is appointed by the ruling coalition or if the ruling coalition refused to accept a decision of the High Court of Justice, democracy in Israel is dead.

The united legislative/executive branch of government has now stated that it will not accept a High Court decision. We, the citizens of Israel, now live in a totalitarian country – a dictatorship, just like Turkey, Saudi Arabia, China, Russia, North Korea, and Cuba. The next thing that will happen is that the elections will be indefinitely delayed or will be corrupted. Demonstrations against the dictatorship will be met by police forces acting illegally – which has already happened, and will increase in frequency and force. The High Court, as is now proven, will be helpless to defend the people against the dictatorship and the lives of its judges are in danger – as has already been proven.

Already, one cannot exercise freedom of speech by wearing a simple t-shirt expressing objection to a cabinet minister who, unbelievably, was appointed by the prime minister to be Minister of National Security when he was exempted for inclusion in the IDF due to his extremism. Obviously, the government has been planning this coup for a long time. We have been blind. It is time we opened our eyes.
