Israel is ready to end the military financial aid from U.S.
When I was reading that the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, in the interview with The Economist, stated: The State of Israel will not renew Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), an annual $3.6 billion military aid package expiring in 2028, I connected this news to three articles I wrote many months ago, where I was stressing the danger to the well-being of Jewish state inflicted by the reliance on American aid. The pitfalls, causes and the necessity to get rid of the dependency on the superpower’s aid were stressed in the articles published on March 11, 2024, April 18, 2024, and January 16, 2025, by The Times of Israel Blogs, respectively.
The March 11, 2024, article “The State of Israel should pre-emptively end the aid from US because of the demographic and political changes in the near future” reveals that U.S. aid to Israel constitutes less than 1% of the Israeli Gross Domestic Product (GDP), describes the details of the military aid, points to troubling demographic trend of increase in Muslim population in America and identifies another hostile to Israel group, the indoctrinated youth. Here are some quotes from this article: “The pro-Palestinian demonstrations in universities and the other places, after the Hamas’s barbaric attack on Israel, reveal how well-organized the Islamic movement is in the U.S. During the demonstrations the mob was full of hatred and militancy toward the state of Israel and Jewish people. The coordinated action by the present number of Muslims in the U.S against Israel and Jewish people will double or triple in its strength and intensity with the increase in the Muslim population in the U.S. The demography of the U.S. will affect the political face of the United States of America. Another group of haters of the state of Israel and Jews is the indoctrinated youth who were demonstrating with the Muslims at the pro-Palestinian rallies” and “The increasing Muslim population and the future leaders of the U.S., the indoctrinated youth, will acquire enough influence and power to deny help to the state of Israel. These groups will be assisted by the American administrations like President Biden’s”.
The April 18, 2024, article “To end the dependence on US and its aid” contains evidence which reenforces my belief that State of Israel should terminate the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), promulgating the dependence on American aid. The unreliability of United States as a partner is the leitmotiv of this piece. Here are some quotes from this article: “The former Secretary of State and National Security Advisor to the President Richard Nixon, Henry Kissinger, stated:’ It may be dangerous to be American enemy, but to be American friend is fatal”. Who knew better then Henry Kissinger the nature of the foreign policy of the United States of America. There is a long list of countries and individuals the United States of America had abandoned when the support for these countries and people did not meet the interests and political aspirations of the people in power” and “To end the dependence on U.S. is not a thing which will happen overnight. It is a long-term process which needs to start as soon as possible by the government of Israel and the Knesset, encouraging the Israeli defense industry to produce the weapons locally. It will test the friendship between US and Israel”.
The January 26, 2025, article “United States is the biggest supplier of the military ordnance and equipment for Israel. Should Israel reduce the dependence?” takes the reader to the times of the founding of United States of America and its political structure established by the framers of the republic. Not much changed in the political dynamic of the USA for 250 years of its existence. Here some quotes from the article: “Alexander Hamilton founded the Federalist party between 1789 and 1790. (The Federalist party was the forerunner of Whig, Free Soilers and, founded in 1854, the Republican parties). Thomas Jefferson and James Madison established the Democratic Republican party in the early 1790s. (The Democratic Republican party was a forerunner of the Democratic party, founded in 1828). The Federalist party was in power for twelve years, two terms of George Washington and one term of John Adams. The Jefferson’s Democratic Republican party defeated the Federalists. Thomas Jefferson reversed the initiatives of Federalists-the same way as Biden has reversed the polices of Trump, after Trump’s first term. Now, Trump is reversing the policies of Biden. Nothing has changed from the beginning of the republic to the present days. The partisan divisions between the current parties, the Democrats and Republicans, are deep and vicious. Considering the inevitable fluctuation in the United States political decisions, should Israel be dependent on United States as main supplier of the military ordnance and equipment? The Israeli’s economic, scientific and technological capabilities are such that it can reduce the dependence on U.S. supply of military ordnances and equipment by manufacturing it in the Jewish state. The government and Knesset should provide tax incentives, subsidies and, also, encourage the investment in research and production of military ordnance and equipment locally”.
The American military aid to Israel constitutes only a very small fracture of GDP of the Jewish State. Most of the aid is provided as grants, funds Israel must use to buy U.S. military equipment and services which is produced and provided by American companies. Therefore, it creates jobs and profits for U.S. companies. The demonstrations in universities and other locations, after the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel by Hamss, showed the strength and preparedness of the Islamist movement in United States. Even with present number of Muslims in the country, they can mobilize a movement calling for elimination of Israel and promoting hatred against Jewish people. We do not know exactly how many Muslims were among the millions of illegals who crossed the Southern border of U.S., during the Biden’s administration. It is reasonable to posit quite a lot. Israel should realize that the Muslims in America are growing in numbers and acquiring political and other powers. Among the demonstrators against Israel were a notable number of youths not of Middle Eastern origin. These young people were indoctrinated by liberal professors to see Israelis as aggressors and Palestinians a oppressed. After graduation these youth may achieve high status and powerful positions to direct the U.S. policies toward hatred of Israel and Jewish people. The rising polarization between Republican and Democratic parties contributes to completely cancelling the policy of the prior administration of opposite party. This makes partnership with the United States unpredictable and dangerous.
Considering all factors stated above, I applaud the announcement by Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to end American aid. Godspeed.
