Israeli Government Opts for Revolution
Most of the time, when we discuss the word and phenomena of revolution, such discussions tend to be theoretical. That revolution becomes just one option among others, in a real and actionable sense, rarely occurs throughout history. The decision of late American colonists to form an insurgency against the British was not a lofty ideal crafted by academics at universities, it was a tactical and practical decision to stay alive, or meet sure and certain death at the hands of red coats who had monarchical orders to put down the rebellion. The decision by the Bolsheviks to overthrow the care-taker Kerensky government in October of 1917 (under the old calendar) was just that — a decision. One can go on. As many have observed, the decision by the Israeli War Cabinet to strike the clerical regime in Tehran’s nuclear infrastructure was at once a decision to place the bet and hope on the Iranian people.
Critical observers, particularly those of us who’ve always believed in the power of the Iranian people and working-class to ‘break free,’ have maintained that such strikes against the regime’s nuclear fetish would axiomatically lead to a popular uprising against the mullahs. This is exactly the calculus made by the IWC, and it’s the correct one. As a sworn foe against cliche, I struggle to invoke the story of David and Goliath, but how can I not when we can see that Israel cannot possibly occupy a nation ten times its size? Israel is also not under any illusions of such, thus it knows all it can do is cripple the regime’s military infrastructure, and leave the rest to the people of Iran. Thus, we clearly see that opting for revolution in Iran is not just some idealized ideal; it’s the best and most practical option for survival. The recent decision to arm Gazans against Hamas also places the bet on revolutionary forces.
In the last world war, the use of leaflets were common and effective. Israel has made good use of them in Gaza, during this most recent war against Hamas, mostly in guiding people towards safety before pending military action. The Israeli War Cabinet should utilize the use of political leaflets encouraging Iranians to rise up, and giving some good slogans to get behind. Alongside every rocket Israel launches to put down the regime, should be drones carrying 10,000 leaflets each, with different messages for diversity. “The time to defy the mullahs is now.” “Freedom is within reach.” “Life, Women, Iran.” “Do it for Zhina Amini.”
While most observers and pundits paint the United States and Donald Trump as Israel’s most crucial and strategic ally, there’s no doubt that at the end of the day the best ally Israel has is the Iranian people and its working-class who are leading general strikes around the country.
