Jerusalem no longer “occupied” for US, or Princess Leia?
With a New Year’s trip to Pompano Beach, Jocelyne, the boys, and I saw the latest Star Wars movie, “The Last Jedi.” Not knowing what to expect, I was surprised that Carrie Fisher had such a major role in the film. The filmmakers were able to complete the scenes before her tragic death, and were very respectful, with a fitting tribute at the end of the movie
Wouldn’t you know it – Facebook memories just popped up with my post of last December in the Times of Israel, when my bride and I met Carrie Fisher, along with Lauren Bacall, in the Shuk in Jerusalem.

Amazing what has taken place in this past year, “Occupied” Jerusalem is now, after 70 years, acknowledged as Israel’s capital by the US!!! … with other countries following suite.
Many of the comments made last year have more layers of significance.
Last December we were finishing eight years of of the previous US administration’s enabling appeasement of Palestinian “victimhood.” Now we have witnessed a tectonic course correction. The acknowledgement of reality, of Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish State of Israel, can truly lead to a path towards Peace, as the wind is beginning to be taken out of the sails of Abbas’s UN efforts to the delegitimization of Israel.
Chances are now greater that we will see Peace, as conditions have changed and it is more of a possibility that a new Palestinian “Sadat” can arise, who is truly interested in making Peace for his/her grandchildren!
A new Palestinian leader will have to get past the “Replacement Theology” of the KGB inspired and trained PLO doctrine of the past 54 years. The local Arab population gained an identity as Palestinians, not to be based on nation building, but on a death culture of terror and usurpation.
The reality of the PLO Palestinian identity: Before the rise of the terrorist organization of the PLO in 1964, there was an Arab identity with allegiance to family, tribe and a greater Arab people-hood. The historic reality was that if one was speaking of Palestinians pre-1964, for the most part, one was speaking ONLY of Jews, eg. Palestine Post, Palestine Orchestra, and Jewish Palestinian residents, like my bride Jocelyne’s Jerusalem aunt and uncle who identified as Palestinians.
We have seen 5 1/2 decades of the PLO “Replacement Theology” in which the Arab Palestinians are the “new Jews.”
… Palestinian goals “from the River to the Sea” unabashedly replaces Israel on the globe.
… International support for the creation of Palestine, mirrors the Zionist movement for the creation of Israel. Dafka/B’Hevdale- differently though, Israel focused on nation building, and not using terror, or the threat of terror and intimidation as the primary tool of international persuasion.
… Emulating terminologies of “Diaspora” and “Right of Return,” essential to Zionism. With the Jewish basis of these concepts invisible to the current generation, these terms have been transformed as relating solely to Palestinian aspirations in the current PC world.
… Finally, I was stunned by a realization of this new comparative reality in reading Shimon Peres’s recent autobiography, No Room For Small Dreams, published just after his passing. As President Peres lost loved family members in the Holocaust, as did much of the Jewish world, he strove for Peace to his dying days …
… Conversely, as a stark counterpoint to Shimon Peres’s life, is the most disturbing facet of this “Replacement Theology.” Understanding the factual data, the unique dimensions of industrial genocide, the gravity and reality of the Nazi Holocaust, is the realization of how DISGUSTING and outrageous are the Palestinian efforts, with UN and world compliance, assuming and promoting victim-hood of a false new Holocaust, with Israel painted as the new Nazis.
Spoken in the parlors of the European elite, and seen on the streets throughout the globe, and even in the US, especially on American campuses, this newest version of age-old anti-Semitism pollutes the minds of young people, gives power to hate, and puts us farther from our goals of Peace.
If it wasn’t so tragic, the ironic truth is that Arab Palestinian usurpation of Zionism exemplifies that “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”
Thankfully, we can mark this point in world history, as we witness a dynamic change in US and world relationships with Israel.
Upon recognition of the historic Jewish nature of Jerusalem as the political capital of the State of Israel, fidelity to truth and reality will dictate that we will see the opportunity of a “Palestinian Sadat,” who will educate the Palestinian people towards Peace.
… and not the current continuation of the victim-hood and “Jihad” – death culture legacies of the KGB trained Arafat and Abbas.
For those who remember Carrie Fisher as young Princess Leia, and my memory of two Jewish Princesses meeting, … my Jewish Egyptian Princess, Jocelyne, meeting (half-Jewish) Princess Leia in the Jerusalem Shuk,
– My wish for all is a Happy New Year and “May the Force be with you!”
