‘Justice, Justice, You Shall Pursue’
Torah portion Shoftim ( Deuteronomy Chapter 18:1-21:9)
I have written about this Torah portion previously, with other thoughts that came to mind at the time, I now profoundly realize, even more that ever before, that we not only read each Torah portion week by week, but that we live the Torah portion’s essence each week.)
Justice, Justice,
You shall pursue near, far and wide,
Beyond base weakness;
Neither waves of time,
Nor the abyss below, stops
The unleashed force of mission
The contained soul fire
Lit by the cosmic spirit,
Human freedom’s torch,
Dispels the darkness
Of ignorance and apathy
Will’s paralysis;
And brightens the night
By collapsing the black hole
From which all light escapes;
A rain of comets
Ricochets throughout the universe
In a boomerang movement,
An eternal bounce
To alight the earth
As it does the heavens;
Whose stars and moon
Awaken hope in darkness
Forgotten chained hostage;
The sun’s explosions
Blazing and scorching the desert
Of human thought,
No longer blind
The portal of infinite
Possibility
Given to humanity
To transcend its earthly bounds
And thus release
The fugitive’s solitude
To unity’s combined strength
Liberated by will.
Justice, justice
You shall pursue
