They are doing the same as Hitler’s V2 rockets on London
We use rockets to get people to space stations or the moon. Then, do we name rockets meant to detonate and nukes kamikaze rockets? Of course not! To call unmanned aerial vehicles or projectiles ‘kamikaze’ is nonsense. That way, all war rockets, and bullets are kamikaze ammunition.
Military shelling of choice is no longer the boomerang that needs to return to base (but only if it missed its target). All modern ammo is one-way stuff that is launched and never seen again by the shooter.
These killer drones are simply missiles with wings. Like any airplane, they are more primitive and cheaper than rockets that must carry oxygen to burn their fuel. They don’t fire projectiles. They are the projectiles.
Drones can circle above their target before their final trajectory to strike. But, our Iron Dome should easily shoot down 100% of these long-range fliers just when they enter its reach. The IDF already downs infiltrating short-rage espionage drones, even without the Iron Dome. It should not be nervous if Iran sends killer ones to Israel.
And, like Hitler’s V2s on London, Hamas’ rockets on Israeli civilians, and Putin’s armed drones on Ukraine cities, these commit war crimes. It is a crime against humanity to target noncombatants, as different from collateral (accidental or reasonably unavoidable) damage fighting an army.
Yet, I get it why they’re called kamikaze drones. This is to distinguish them from armed drones with machine guns. (Like cluster bombs, they damage indiscriminately, clearly a war crime even to possess.) Drones may also be able to drop bombs or fire missiles. Those are killer or attack drones.
Drones loaded with explosives to crash into targets or detonate above them, just as the V2s, should be called flying bombs or drone bombs.
In summary, there are recreational drones, security drones, commercial drones, and military drones, among the latter espionage drones, and armed or killer drones, among the latter attack drones, and drone bombs.
