After Shavuot and Shabbat I caught up on the latest news and was shocked but not surprised. What began as a violent protest against the killing of a black man named George Floyd aged 46 in Minneapolis on Monday of last week, quickly spread like wildfire across the US.
The pictures of broken glass and fires raging out of control across not only Minneapolis and St. Paul, but many other American cities, reminded me of the fires and broken glass across Germany during Kristallnacht 81 years ago, while watching TV films of World War II with my Dad as a young boy.
Of course, that was the beginning of the Nazi assault on our people which culminated in the slaughter of 6 million Jews. Another 6 million figure was confirmed on Motzei Shabbat when I looked at the latest COVID-19 numbers on TOI’s Main Page, and for the first time saw that the number of COVID-19 cases had surpassed 6 million worldwide.
The SOS I placed at the end of the heading was the Morse Code distress call for help. Looking at the pictures day after day of the violence that has been taking place not only in the US but around the world is a distress signal that ALL of us should urgently pay attention to.
Gang Violence Had Increased Dramatically in Minnesota’s Twin Cities Before George Floyd’s Death
I have provided many examples in previous Blogs of the recent rise in gang violence that has become a major problem in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. There are a number of factors that are behind this sharp rise. I provided evidence of the increase in vandalism on the light rail train in previous Blogs and presented a video of testimony from light rail train workers who feared for their life due to the lack of law and order on those trains resulting from an increase in gang violence.
This has placed increase pressure on the Minneapolis and St. Paul Police Departments to respond to this violence. There have been a number of attacks on those trains in the past putting the safety of its passengers in danger.
But it seemed this was regarded as a local problem that local authorities would have to solve and therefore not many people were paying much attention to this major problem that was spreading through the Twin Cities.
Minnesota Ranked First For Recruiting Terrorists Per Capita In 2018 – Omar Requested Sentence Reduction For One Of The Terrorist Recruits
In a February, 2018 Minneapolis Star And Tribune Report, statistics showed that Minnesota has been the number one ranked terrorist recruitment center per capita. And Congresswoman Omar asked for reduced prison time for at least one of those found guilty and sentenced to 30 years in prison.
An ABC report dated January 25, 2019, states that in 2016, Omar wrote on behalf of Abdirahman Yasin Daud, who was one of two young men arrested in San Diego in April 2015. Daud was one of nine people arrested for trying to join ISIS. He was caught trying to purchase fake passports to travel to Syria.
Omar wrote to the judge: “Incarcerating 20-year-old men for 30 or 40 years is essentially a life sentence. Society will have no expectations of the to be 50 or 60-year-old released prisoners; it will view them with distrust and revulsion. Such punitive measures not only lack efficacy, they inevitably create an environment in which extremism can flourish, aligning with the presupposition of terrorist recruitment.”
What Have Omar, Ellison And The Twin Cities Mayors Done To Reduce This Sharp Increase In Violence Leading Up To George Floyd’s Death?
By all accounts, despite any claims anyone of them has made, the situation continues to worsen.
To substantiate this, in a MinnPost report dated Feb. 18, 2020, by Peter Callaghan, Minnesota House Minority Leader Kurt Daubt, R-Crown, said “Minnesotans are worried about the increase in crime, and, unfortunately, there’s been a reluctance by our city leaders to take meaningful steps to address it.”
“This is not just an issue for residents of Minneapolis and St. Paul,” Daudt continued. “We all represent constituents who travel to the cities to visit family and friends, who work, who go to sporting events, who go to concerts. And they all worry about their safety.”
Minnesota Governor Appoints Two Officials To Lead The George Floyd Investigation
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced Sunday that he has asked Attorney General Keith Ellison to assist Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman in the forthcoming case surrounding the death of George Floyd. That is very important that a swift and thorough investigation into George Floyd death be carried out as soon as possible.
The world is now watching how Minnesota is going to handle this case. This is going to have worldwide impact once the results of the investigation are announced.
Why Isn’t Omar Being Investigated As Well?
This has been an ongoing question since evidence was uncovered that Ilhan Omar may not be her real name. Months have gone by and Omar refuses to answer questions about her family and marital status history. There is also a substantial amount of evidence against her to justify tax fraud and campaign finance fraud charges to name a few.
Why Did Minnesota’s DFL Party Endorse Ilhan Omar Without An Investigation?
On May 24, Minnesota’s Democratic Party known as the DFL, endorsed its candidates for the US House of Representatives. Ilhan Omar’s name was included among those candidates that were endorsed. Ilhan Omar was endorsed despite all of the unanswered questions and evidence as detailed above which need to be addressed by the DFL Party.
Whether Or Not It Is Proper Protocol, The US Attorney General’s Office Should Take An Immediate Interest In Investigating The Killing Of George Floyd
I want to question why an investigation into George Floyd’s death should involve Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison. For a case as important as this, not only the people of Minnesota but all of America needs to have someone involved who can be trusted to judge this case fairly.
Instead of conducting an investigation into Ilhan Omar, Ellison agreed with the DFL and published an endorsement of Omar in the Minneapolis Star And Tribune on May 1.
Glenn Beck of Blaze TV, many months ago, also wanted to know why Ellison is not investigating Omar. In a September 17, 2019 presentation titled – Ilhan Omar – All In The Family – just before the 40 minute mark, Glenn Beck asks-
One Last Question – Where Is Attorney General Ellison In All Of This?
We are all waiting for answers to that question.
It should be obvious, Keith Ellison should be the last person appointed to be involved with the George Floyd investigation.
