It’s no use to teach them math. But let them be aware of their ineptitude.
Over and over, we read reports from smart, eloquent journalists who don’t know 1 + 2 x 3. (The answer is 7.)
Here is a recent example:
Now, 80% have overwhelmingly negative opinions of the United Nations, a stark 18% [sic] increase from a 2023 survey, when it was 62%.
The actual increase was 18/62 = a very stark 29% increase, or, say, a third.

Here is another example:
It reports that Antisemitic attitudes in the UK had grown to 21%. Yet, in the next sentence, it says 45% said Israel treats Palestinians like the Nazis treated Jews. This is an example of Antisemitism, as defined by the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism. Three paragraphs down, we read that 26% embraced the Antisemitic conspiracy theory that Israel can get away with anything because its supporters control the media.
How can only 21% have Antisemitic attitudes if 45% and 26% have such views? Only when you’re totally blind to numbers.

Another way dyscalculia shows is when journalists faithfully copy the numbers of a study without any thought about the findings.
An annual Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) comparative study has all kinds of numbers about Israel, provided by the Israeli authorities, that insiders should flag as just nonsense. * No distinction is made between Jewish more-or-less secular, Jewish Ultra-Orthodox, and Arab schools—apples, oranges, and bananas. * It is not considered that many Israeli girls marry early and, only after a couple of kids, complete their studies and begin a career. * Neither is it mentioned that many boys are conscripted to military service for years, but that some of them, already during their service, begin higher education. * In many countries, children are free on Fridays, but, in Israel, with its many free religious holidays, most jobs are six days a week. In capitalist societies, schools keep the kids busy while both parents work. And shopping, cleaning, and cooking for Shabbat is easier with the kids out of the way.
Percentages like 48.53%, instead of just 49% or 50%, are just ridiculous.
Fewer young Israeli adults lack upper secondary education compared to the OECD average. Then, not ‘only a quarter’ of Israeli graduates came from families where neither parent had completed high school education, which is about the OECD average. That’s extra good if the percentage of people without higher education is lower than the OECD average.
Beats me how 62.62% [sic] of tertiary students had ‘at least one parent with a high school education,’ while 25.5% had no such parent.

Many language-smart people seem math-blind, and math-smart people seem language-blind. They can’t learn it. If they could, they would’ve.
I know, the above examples mean nothing to writers. But please, trust me.
At least, when most journalists encounter any number, let them know their disability and ask someone to check them. That’s all I’m asking.
Full disclosure: I only know the very basics of math and language. Thus, I’m still better than most people who are language-dumb and math-dumb.

Like most of his readers, he believes in being friendly, respectful, and loyal. However, if you think those are his absolute top priorities, you might end up disappointed. His first loyalty is to the truth. He agrees that in a post-truth world, that's irrelevant, but then this is for the record. He will try to stay within the limits of democratic and Jewish law, but he won't lie to support opinions or people when don't deserve that. (Yet, we all make honest mistakes, which is just fine and does not justify losing support.) He admits that he sometimes exaggerates to make a point, which could have him come across as nasty, while in actuality, he's quite a lovely person to interact with. He holds - how Dutch - that a strong opinion doesn't imply intolerance of other views. *
