Let’s start making the right people famous
I’m pleased to see that the Times of Israel makes sure so many people who might never get any recognition otherwise, get noticed, their achievements and life stories remembered. We learn so much about the hostages, for example. Who they are, or were, what their goals in life are, or were. I believe making sure their names and stories aren’t forgotten is a good way to fight back against evil. To show the world there’s more to the hostages than just statistics and diplomatic statements.
Then, there are artists, intellectuals, diplomats, and many others, who got noticed, and deservedly so.
Let’s make the right people famous. Not some stupidity where people lick toilet seats and get millions of views. I mean, really? Look around you. Do you know artists, someone working on an interesting project, and so on? There are so many people who deserve recognition but they often don’t care about fame. They don’t care about Wikipedia pages, and that’s what makes them all the more worthy to be known not just to five people around them.
At the same time, there’s nothing wrong with having some narcissism in you. Let’s not be so humble all the time. If you do something not only to help, but to be recognized, there’s no reason to be ashamed. You deserve recognition. Someone virtue signals? So what. It happens. Let’s not be so judgmental and critical. People deserve recognition for hard and creative work, whatever that might be. Just because they want to be seen, recognized, for their efforts? That’s perfectly alright. They are doing good things and deserve some ego stroke.
You know what is absolutely insane to me? Some dead Russian propagandist, a criminal calling for burning people alive, has a Wikipedia page. Yet, excellent Ukrainian writers who were killed by Russians on the frontlines, and not only, are barely known. What the hell is this? Some criminal who could only copy regime propaganda gets Wikipedia pages and great Ukrainian writers who had so much more to offer than some Russian pompous pseudo-philsopher ass, get no recognition? We must change this.
Again, look around you. We all can make it happen and ensure the right people get the recognition they deserve. Do you know someone in your community who isn’t well-known but deserves to be? Make it happen. Let’s start making the right people famous. Don’t wait for newspapers and podcasters to do the job for you.
