Ma Nishtana? Why is This Different From Other Destructions?

In 2014, a young 16 year old Palestinian boy, Mohammed Abu-Khdeir, was brutally beaten and burned alive by a group of young Jewish extremists. Or rather, as they should be called, Jewish terrorists.

Abu-Khdeir was innocent of any anti-Israel activity. The Jewish terrorists were simply hunting for an Arab victim in revenge for an earlier murder of three Israeli teen-age hikers. Abu-Khdeir was chosen to be the slaughtered lamb. Savagely attacked and beaten, doused with petrol and set on fire to be burned while alive.

The Israeli public was incensed at such a horrific crime committed by ultra-Orthodox Jewish settlement youth and demanded their punishment.

Yesterday it came. The High Court sentenced one killer to life imprisonment, another who was an accomplice to twenty-one years in prison, and an older fellow who is feigning insanity and awaiting a psychiatric evaluation prior to sentencing.

The High Court acted justly in imposing the long sentences.

But the father of Mohammed Abu-Khdeir jumped up in court and shouted. And I think his shout could be heard around the world. “Why don’t you demolish the homes of the Jewish terrorists just as you do to the homes of Arab terrorists?”

Ma nishtana? Why is this crime and punishment of Jewish terrorists different from that of Arab terrorists?

We have long been accused, and often rightly so, of having two standards of for Jews and one for Arabs.

It is fitting that the punishment imposed on one should be imposed on the other. Otherwise, the noun “democracy” is a sham and is a disgrace of our so-called equality under the law.

Jewish terrorists are vigilantes who take the law into their own dirty hands and besmirch the good name of Israel’s justice system.

I call upon the prosecutor and the Justices of the High Court to demand the demolition of the homes of the Jewish terrorists.

It will serve as an example to future lunatics who would feel uncomfortable seeing their parents homeless.

Failure to do so would support the complaints of our enemies that Israel has two sets of laws. Similar to the treatments handed out to American blacks in the south who endured punishments, even death sentences, not handed out to southern white criminals.

This was a crime which deserves the highest penalty possible. Imprison the Jewish terrorists and destroy their homes.

Tzedek tzedek tirdof…. Pursue the path of justice and righteousness and remove the shame which stains all Jews of good-will.
