Maturity and an Awakening- an open letter to PM Netanyahu

To:

Benjamin Netanyahu

Prime Minister of the State of Israel

Subject: Maturity and an Awakening

In light of the increasing reports about a hostage deal that may bring back our daughters, sisters, brothers, and sons, I feel compelled to address you on behalf of those who lack a voice — those who do not shout but whose hearts shattered into thousands of pieces on October 7th, and who cannot articulate aloud the sentiment that represents the silent majority.

October 7th was, and remains, a symbol of the absolute failure of a state that broke its most basic contract with its citizens — the total loss of personal and national security. In the coming weeks, we will read about the Israelites’ descent into slavery in Egypt and their subsequent liberation. It was written of our enemies: “There was no house where there was not one dead.” This is how we all felt on October 7th, in the abrupt shift from joy to despair, in the attempts to locate our loved ones — attempts that are still incomplete.

Indeed, it seems the journey has reached a historic crossroads where we might finally retrieve those who paid with their lives for the natural desire to live freely in their land. We cannot miss this opportunity. Not this time.

Since the acceleration of negotiations began, there have been conflicting reports, some reassuring, others less so. Trial balloons have been floated publicly to allow decision-makers to gauge the national mood in light of the heavy price we are likely to pay for this move.

On behalf of those without a voice, I say, with great fear: Act.

Act because you, the defense establishment, and the minister who headed it, alongside the mechanisms that instill fear in our enemies across the globe, all failed. You broke the sacred contract signed by any normative state, and the price is your obligation to truthfully and sincerely say the words “Never again” — and to uphold them without the slightest deviation.

Mr. Prime Minister, the era in which matters of life and death are determined by public opinion polls ended on the afternoon of October 7th. We cannot accept a reality where commentators from across the political spectrum determine the fate of innocent lives under a political pretext.

Your role and that of the entire defense establishment is to ensure the future of the State of Israel. I do not believe that the current deal will lead to our collapse, despite its clear risks and dangers. It is your duty to ensure this is indeed the case. Israel will not fall again — this is the mandate we entrust to you.

With maturity and after a collective awakening, we must move forward united, secure the release of all hostages, and ensure we bear the cost — the cost of failure. It is time to act for the entire nation, not for narrow factions with limited vision. The responsibility is yours. Go with this given strength and uphold it.

Sincerely,

The Silent Majority
