Recently, it was announced that Israeli Professors Dan Peer, Shlomo Magdassi, and Engineer Idan Tobis were awarded $10,000 each at the inaugural Untold News Awards, held at the Harmonie Club in New York City.

Untold News was founded to inform Americans about the positive, non-political aspects of the Middle East and Israel.

The winners were submitted by prestigious institutions, including Tel Aviv University, Weizmann Institute of Science, and Technion Israel Institute of Technology, amongst others, to a jury of leaders, including Mr. David Schizer, former Dean of Columbia Law School; Dr. Barry Coller, Chief Medical Officer, Rockefeller University; Tony Tether, former Director of DARPA; and Heidi Jacobus, Chairman and CEO of Cybernet Systems.

The winners are: Dan Peer, who developed the “Cancer Bullet,” an injectable form of chemotherapy””showing little to no side effects in trials””targeting only diseased cells, marking the first time nanoparticles are used in clusters instead of individually; Idan Tobis, who invented the Metal Ligament Prosthesis through an arthroscopic procedure that reduces the recovery time from a year to 2-3 months; and   Shlomo Magdassi, who invented a Bendable Plastic Touch Screen Display for smart phones, which can be made with a commercial inkjet printer, reducing the number of manufacturing steps by 80 percent.

Marcella Rosen founded Untold News (www.untoldnews.org) after discovering that Israel is home to more start-ups, inventions, and patents than Europe and has attracted twice as much venture capital per capita as the U.S. “My mission,” says Rosen, “is to help the world understand that Israel is more than a country at war. Our first annual Untold News Awards showcases three amazing inventors whom the jury and I feel will unequivocally make a mark on the global stage.”

Rosen is also the author of Tiny Dynamo: How One of the World’s Smallest Countries Is Producing Some of Our Most Important Inventions, which has also just been published in Spanish.
