My Body is a Temple

There's a Temple Here Somewhere (Free for Use Photo by Vincent M.A. Janssen from Pexels)

The Apostle Paul wrote the words “Your body is a temple“. Sometime later someone found it necessary to explain what Paul was talking about. You, they said, don’t have to go to a real building, an ornate temple, to meet your god. You are the temple.

Since then, many authors have jumped on the bandwagon with quotations both serious and humorous.

Striking a chord with us older members of the community was Joan Rivers:
My body is a temple, and my temple needs redecorating.

But today the problem facing my temple-like body is the Covid vaccinations we are being urged to take. I do not know what is in this vaccine. I will be allowing a strange substance to enter my temple.

Struggling with the to vaccinate or not to vaccinate dilemma, I decided to have my breakfast.

Wishing to spoil myself, I opened the fridge and took out a large steak. I studied the package. It was happy to tell me how much it weighed and how much it cost, but there was no information as to the contents. What had the cow eaten for its daily meals? Had it been given a special last meal before heading for the slaughterhouse? What would I be allowing, admittedly at second-hand, into my body if I ate the steak?

I put the steak back in the fridge.

Taking some rather mundane breakfast cereal, I scanned the label. Once again, there was no information as to the contents of this seemingly harmless food. But should I allow it to enter my temple?

Perhaps a glass of water would be a good start to the day. But, as I turned on the kitchen tap, I wondered just how much did I really know about the long path this water had taken from the skies to my tap.

Most water treatment plants use a combination of coagulation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection. This adds iron or aluminium salts, such as aluminium sulphate, ferric sulphate, ferric chloride or polymers, to the water. It might look like ”just water”, but who knows what I would be letting into my body if I were to drink it.

With nothing to eat or drink, I wondered how the other anti-vaxxers were getting on. Were they also allowing their desire for “human rights” to deprive them of the “human need” to eat?

Perhaps, the anti-vaxxers would like to see a return of other devastating illnesses, such as polio, that had yielded to their vaccines.

Note to the reader – it is safe to read this blog, the author has had both the initial and follow-up vaccinations.
