New mayor accepts EUMC definition of anti-Semitism

Sadiq Kahn promised ‘zero tolerance’ for anti-Semitism.  I wrote to him to ask if he accepted the EUMC Definition.  Here is the response I got from City Hall, dated 9 June:

“Dear Mr Hoffman

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding the EUMC Working Definition of Antisemitism and its use by GLA officers, to which I have been asked to respond. Please accept my apologies for the delay in getting this reply to you.

As you rightly point out, the Mayor has been explicit in his ambition to ensure that London has a zero tolerance approach to antisemitism. Though I am not aware of the GLA formally adopting the EUMC Working Definition of Antisemitism in respect of its officers, I would imagine that it would be a presumption that the principles of the EUMC definition would be expected to be adhered to by GLA officers.

I trust this helps, and thank you again for writing to the Mayor of London.

Yours sincerely
David Wood
External Affairs”

The EUMC Definition is widely used and respected.

How ironic (and sad) that our Muslim Mayor accepts it, but Professor David Feldman — the Deputy Chair of Labour’s Inquiry (and Director, the Pears Institute for the study of Antisemitism at Birkbeck), does not!
