Notre Dame

Looking at the distressing images of Notre Dame going up in flames, I cannot help but think of those many synagogues that were torched by the Nazis and their supporters under very different circumstances on Krystallnacht in 1938. This was my late father’s Liberal synagogue in Breslau. It was never rebuilt and a modest plaque marks the site.
