Nuclear Threats Disarmed: How Trump Firmly Defined His Legacy
I am not an American. While I may have had an opinion on the matter, I didn’t vote Trump in for his first presidency, nor for his second – but by his second term, post-October 7th, I can tell you that I did feel I had some skin in the game. Because like it or not, as an Israeli citizen, America’s next moves were going to be crucial for Israel.
Growing up in the UK, I personally quite enjoyed the pomp and circumstance of the monarchy – posturing though it may seem to others. (It was definitely far more gratifying to read articles about the Royal Family’s charitable acts in OK! magazine than it was to despair over the latest crass move from British politicians). Across the pond, however, I would skeptically watch America’s own version of posturing and political antics, amid claims that whoever is elected president would be ‘the Leader of the Free World’ and think, really? It always seemed a tad presumptuous, viewed from afar.
However, at 3.03am on 22nd June 2025, having received an alert informing me that Trump’s bunker busters had been dropped on Iran’s deathly nuclear sites, my initial reaction was ‘Bravo!’ Whatever preconceived conceptions I had about Trump’s ability to deal with Middle East escalations, his loyalty to America’s ally in the Middle East, or his understanding of the threat Iran poses to the ‘Big Satan’ and ‘Little Satan’ – after this morning, I can hand on heart say, the man has truly sealed his legacy.
He’s earned his title. Iran’s nuclear program was a very real, imminent threat to the Free World, which few people outside of Israel appeared to take seriously – and now, thank G-d, it’s been thwarted. We may not know the ins and outs of the decision-making that led to this moment, but it’s clear that, in recent days, Trump turned away from the influence of those who wanted him to brush Israel away – such as Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, under-secretary of defense for policy Elbridge Colby, and other figures. In Israel, upon reading the ‘extended two-week deadline for Iran’ headlines, most Israelis who’ve been running to bomb shelters each night groaned in frustration. Is this a diversionary tactic, or are we once again dealing with a President who fails to understand Iran’s all-or-nothing vision – such as Obama’s deal of appeasement with the terror regime?
Notwithstanding the courageous work that the IDF has so far put in in destroying Iran’s tentacles of terror – which the world should be applauding Israel for! – Trump’s decisive action to send in the bunker busters show true leadership. A leader with a backbone.
Israel needed this. The world needed this. Israel didn’t have the capabilities to destroy these bunkers alone – and this morning’s events happened in the nick of time.
Conversely, the other main takeaway of the day is how pathetic it’s been to watch the fumble and bumble of other world leaders. On Friday, the UK’s David Lammy was in Geneva to meet Iran’s foreign minister ‘as European countries prepared to put forward a ‘comprehensive negotiation offer’ in a bid to end the conflict with Israel.’ (Spectator UK). What kind of negotiation they hoped to achieve with a murderous regime who has been both blatantly lying and showing their true colors in equal measure for the last 46 years is anyone’s guess – but clearly, these ‘negotiations’ have now been upended.
Europe – you don’t get into bed with terrorists. Surely you should know this by now? The decisive action taken by Israel over the last week, and by America early in the morning, has shown the world: THIS is how you deal with terror.
I hasten to add – no one wants war. Or bombs. Only maniacs, i.e. the Ayatollahs, are itching for war. If I could snap my fingers and end it today – end the sirens, end the missiles, end the destruction of our cities, end our boys being sent to the front line, end the worldwide antisemitism, end Western narcissism allowing glorification of the intifada on their streets, end Qatari-funded brainwashing of American and European students – of course I would. This blog is by no means attempting to glorify, or praise, war.
But praise can, and should, be given for finally putting a great big damaging halt, if not complete stop, to Iran’s despicable nuclear ambitions.
We’ve said ‘Bravo’ to Trump – and now, his ‘Encore!’ awaits …
