On the ‘Mamdani’ Spectrum

In the days leading up to the likely election of Israel-hating, antisemite and socialist Zohran Mamdani to the New York City mayor’s office, some well-known Jews have revealed their unmitigated treachery. High on the list of the backstabbing Jewish “celebrities” are actor Mandy Patinkin, Representative Jerry Nadler and Senator Bernie Sanders. Although many rabbis signed a letter opposing Mamdani, others signed a virtue signaling letter that lent him support.

These are Kapo A-listers, and they occupy the deepest, darkest, far end of this ignominious, self-destructive spectrum.

From the political swamp came not so surprising endorsements from his Democrat party comrades. Hochul, Jefferies, Harris and Warren are examples of the snapping junkyard dogs. The weak-kneed Senator Chuck Schumer, who poses as the Jew’s shomer or guardian, once again disappointed with his craven silence and revealed his unprincipled self by not opposing such a uniquely unworthy and dangerous candidate.

These apparatchiks squat near to the end of this shameful “Mamdani spectrum.” They have responsibilities for protecting all New Yorkers and in this situation the Jewish citizens, and they have sold out.

Mamdani’s antisemitic and anti-Israel credentials leave no room for doubt as to what he stands for. He is an acid test. For a Jew to vote for him is to prove they either have traded their religion for politics, or they simply chosen to ignore the dramatic rise in Jew-hatred in America and around the world. The latest polls suggest that somewhere between 15-20% of Jewish New Yorkers, most of whom are young, progressive and Reformed will vote for him.

These Jews who vote for Mamdani are misguided souls. They occupy a good chunk of this hypothetical inglorious spectrum. They have lost their way due the plights of assimilation, ignorance and indifference. Books written about the American diaspora in one hundred years from now will undoubtably puzzle over their betrayal.

Also found on this spectrum are all the New York City Jews, or for that matter any residents of Gotham who are against antisemitism, who will vote against Mamdani – but – they had not proudly, energetically and generously supported the people and organizations chartered to battle against the Jew-hatred. You are getting what your indifference deserves.

The post October 7th pro-Hamas street riots and the keffiyeh-clad campus protestors are the precursors to the Mamdani candidacy. The streets of New York City saw the worst of these outrageous demonstrations. Columbia University was the epicenter of the protests. By allowing the vitriol to be normalized, apathetic national and local leaders effectively gave the go-ahead to the likes of a Mamdani.

In Congress, the Squad’s noisy presence and the growth of anti-Israel alignment on the Far-Right and Far-Left are evidence of a legislative rot undermining the American-Israel alliance. The single best weapon for Jews and pro-Israel citizens to lobby Congress and to financially support incumbents and candidates for elected office is the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). There are many other good organizations chartered to address other worthwhile Jewish and Israeli issues and causes, but the most successful, focused and capable to affect meaningful support is AIPAC.

If you think you and your family are safe from Mamdani and his ilk history is replete with evidence that you are sadly mistaken. In the last two centuries Jews have suffered from prejudice around the world and even here in America. Now, the mega-trends of Islamification, wokeism, and shifts in leadership among the super-powers presents new dangers for Jews and for Israel.

The stain of his mayoral election should initiate blunt reflection on all those who voted for Mamdani, or who encouraged him, who endorsed him, or didn’t do enough to make his candidacy impossible. They are all on the spectrum of guilty enablers.
