Parashat Vayigash – the work of praise (songs from the Diaspora)

Songs From the Diaspora is a poetry blog featuring writing inspired by Jewish Texts, often, the weekly Torah portion.

Vayigash

What remains-

when salt washes earth,

and the silos sing us

their empty stores?

Their bareness borne

abroad-

and we hear the coming rattle of our chains

but not loudly-

What bond, what love

tithes through ages,

cleaves a name

like a map-

sewn on the soles

of our feet-

Our haunches

coiled yet:

A lions-

tempered in the spareness of galut.
