Partnerships That Protect, Educate, and Strengthen Our Jewish Community

When the Jewish Federation of Annapolis & the Chesapeake (JFedA-C) held its very first board meeting after our launch, we chose to speak with Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth. It wasn’t just a courtesy—it was a declaration of our top priority: building strong partnerships with elected officials at every level to reduce antisemitism and foster a thriving, inclusive community.
In today’s world, where political and social tensions are high and acts of violence too often make headlines, partnerships matter more than ever. Jewish communities want to be allies, not just advocates, in ensuring the safety of our leaders, our neighbors, and our members. Congresswoman Elfreth made it clear that open communication and collaboration are key: she encouraged us to reach out directly about incidents of antisemitism, threats to safety, or local concerns, and our Federation has taken that guidance to heart.
We are fortunate to have partners across city, county, state, and federal levels who share our commitment. County Executive Steuart Pittman, newly elected Jewish Mayor Jared Littmann, Councilmember Lisa Rodvien, and other county and state officials have all been strong allies. Their support helps ensure that our Jewish community is heard, protected, and included in shaping policies that impact us all.
Partnerships extend beyond elected officials. JFedA-C has joined forces with Anne Arundel County’s team on initiatives like NoHateHere and an educational webinar, providing resources, training, and dialogue that help our broader community recognize and reject antisemitism and all forms of hate.
Everyone can be a partner and ally in this work. It’s easy! For example, can access our Action Alert system, which lets you quickly reach your elected officials to advocate for community safety and inclusion, here. Take a moment to go to the link to send a short note of allyship to your own elected officials!
These partnerships are more than strategic—they are personal. Our Jewish identity, values, and commitment to service drive us to engage in ways that strengthen the safety and well-being of everyone. Whether it’s hosting educational programs, facilitating interfaith dialogue, or ensuring security for congregations, the Jewish Federation of Annapolis & the Chesapeake (and especially the groups that it is comprised of) are working to build a community that is resilient, inclusive, and proud of its Jewish life.
The work is urgent. Rising antisemitism and societal tensions make it imperative that we act—and act together. By fostering strong relationships with elected officials, civic leaders, and county initiatives like NoHateHere, the Jewish Federation of Annapolis & the Chesapeake is ensuring that our community remains safe, educated, and empowered. We invite everyone to join us in this work and to use our Action Alert system to make your voice heard.
Because protecting Jewish life—and building a thriving, inclusive community—is not just our responsibility. It’s all of ours.
