President of the Albert Einstein Hospital Council Invited by Flávio Bolsonaro
Brazil – August 28: TV Globo hosted PL’s presidential candidate for 2026, Flávio Bolsonaro, in an interview aired after Jornal Nacional, conducted by journalists César Tralli and Renata Vasconcellos.
During the interview, the candidate announced that he has invited physician Cláudio Lottenberg to serve as Minister of Health if elected. Bolsonaro stated that he intends to bring the so‑called “Einstein Standard” to Brazil’s Unified Health System (SUS), with a focus on technology and artificial intelligence.
Who is Cláudio Lottenberg Lottenberg, 65, is an ophthalmologist trained at the Paulista School of Medicine (UNIFESP), with a master’s and doctorate in the field. Renowned for his work in hospital management, he is president of the Council of the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital, a member of the Federal Council for Economic and Social Development (CDES), of the World Jewish Congress, and currently serves as president of the Brazilian Israelite Confederation (CONIB).
His career began as a volunteer at Albert Einstein Hospital. In 2001, at age 40, he became the youngest president of the institution. Under his leadership, the hospital expanded partnerships with the public sector, supporting programs for low‑income populations, such as the Transplant Program. In 2016, his administration oversaw the creation of the Einstein School of Medicine, consolidating the institution as a teaching center.
In the private sector, he founded the Lotten Eyes ophthalmology clinic network in São Paulo, strengthening his presence in both medical and business spheres.
Political and Diplomatic Context The invitation comes amid strained relations between Brazil and Israel. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva drastically reduced diplomatic ties, maintaining only minimal administrative structures between the two countries.
Lottenberg, regarded as one of Brazil’s leading Jewish figures, could represent not only a significant shift in public health leadership but also open the door to a new chapter in bilateral relations.
Possible Impacts In healthcare, his expertise may foster strategic partnerships, such as with the Hadassah hospital network, a global reference in innovation and medical excellence.
