Robert F. Kennedy Jr: On Jews and Israel
Robert F. Kennedy Jr opened his campaign for the 2024 US presidential election exactly a year ago, on April 19, 2023. On June 20, 2023, he gave a remarkable speech in New Hampshire, titled “Peace and Diplomacy”, commemorating the anniversary of a famous speech given by his uncle, President John F. Kennedy, at the American University in 1963. His speech presented a stark contrast with some positions that had taken hold in the Democratic party regarding the role of the United States in the international arena. RFK Jr is also known for very actively defending the people’s right to have a basic clean environment (water and air), and for holding non-orthodox views about the increased use of pharmaceutical products that – in his opinion – have not been vetted enough to ensure that they are safe to be used by children. All these have not made him many friends in powerful circles, to say the least.
On top of this – related or unrelated to all the above – rumors began swirling about him in the social media, and he was accused – between other things – of being an antisemite.
His friend, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, invited him to a public dialog to clarify his positions about the Jews. This dialog was held on July 25, 2023. For the benefit of the public, I considered worthwhile to transcribe in written this dialog that Robert F. Kennedy Jr held with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach. You will find the published transcription at Amazon, in eBook and paperback formats. The small book is titled: “Robert F. Kennedy Jr: On Jews and Israel”.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr ran initially for the Democratic party nomination, but on October 9, 2023, he announced that he would run as an Independent. On March 26, 2024, he announced his pick for vice-president: Nicole Shanahan, a young charismatic Californian lawyer and philanthropist. The announcement was made in Oakland, California. As a neighbor living in the Silicon Valley, it caught my attention.
What happened with the Labor Party in the UK under Jeremy Corbyn, could happen to the Democratic Party in the US. I wish president Joe Biden good health. But he is also 81 years old and, if something happens to him – I do not see a figure of stature in the Democratic party that would succeed him and be as committed to the support of Israel as he is, to say the least.
If you do not want to vote for Donald Trump in the coming November 2024 elections in the US, and you feel that the Democratic party is falling under the spell of the “progressive” Israel-bashing movement, then the Kennedy-Shanahan Independent ticket is worth considering.
