Self Defence
I need to begin this post by saying that my heart and condolences go out to the victims and families who have been affected by the latest killings here in Israel, but I need to also say that while these attacks are frightening and devastating, living here is not as scary as it seems. I want to emphasize that I do feel safe living in this country.
Depending on where you live in the world, the news reports you see will probably skew your view on the murders that took place here, but let me assure you, it is far more likely to be killed here in a car accident, than by an act of terrorism on the street.
The picture above was taken today during our Judo class where we began to learn what to do if someone comes at you with a knife. In this photo, the assailant came to stab me in the face, but I blocked her with crossed arms, and then used my arms to leverage hers back to make her drop the knife and then fall. This is just one defence method against a knife attack, and there is much more to learn. While the chances of me actually being faced with this situation are unlikely, it is a great learning opportunity in self defence, and one that I feel I would be able to comfortably employ if need be!
Plus, I feel like a badass.
