Self-Reflection – Elul 2- Mini Course
Think of someone you judge harshly. What keeps you from feeling compassion toward that person? Socrates said, “The unexamined life is not worth living.
“סוקרטס אמר, “החיים הבלת נבדקים אינם שווים לחיות
Thank you for joining me, on a 29 days journey as we undertake a “cheshbon nefesh,” “accounting of the soul.” We will ask questions covering 29 traits, or middot one for each day of the month of Elul.
The Hebrew month of Elul
The Hebrew month of Elul offers us an opportunity to prepare for the High Holy Days ahead. It is a time of introspection. The Torah inspires us to develop our character, Tikkun Middot, becoming better people by correcting our faults and improving our character.
Elul Self-Reflection #2 Rachamim- Being Merciful
Embracing the trait of mercy, pity for those less fortunate than yourself.
Think of someone you judge harshly. What keeps you from feeling compassion toward that person?
?תחשוב על מישהו שאתה שופט בחומרה. מה מונע ממך לחוש חמלה כלפי אותו אדם
Can you find a point of connection with them?If so, might that connection allow you to consider them with more compassion?
Self-reflection brings perspective to our lives. It helps us learn, grow, appreciate and understand. When we fail to reflect on our lives, we lose perspective, get caught up in things that don’t matter, and often lose sight of the things that are most important.
What Is Self-reflection? השתקפות עצמית
Self-reflection is the process of diving deep into your thoughts, emotions and motivations and determining the great, “Why?” behind them.
Self reflection is a gift to yourself. Take the time to think about, meditate on, evaluate your behaviors, thoughts, attitudes, motivations, and desires.. You may also wish to keep a list of people from whom you need to seek forgiveness, and another list of those you wish to forgive.
