So, you want to vote for Ossof

Sunday, Karen Handel spoke in front of standing room only audience at the Berman Commons filled with Democrats, Republicans and Independents, sponsored by the Jewish War Veterans. At the end of her 20 minute speech and question session she received a standing ovation from the packed hall. However in this day and age of fake news and biased reporting, 11 Alive showed side to side excerpts of Jon Ossof saying he supports aid to Israel (big deal, we have a ten year treaty guaranteeing aid) and a tightly edited shot of Karen saying she will cancel aid.

If you believe in real news and facts, the actual quote is that KAREN WILL SUPPORT THE TAYLOR FORCE ACT WHICH WILL CUT OFF FUNDS TO THE PALESTINIANS IF THEY CONTINUE TO GIVE BONUSES TO TERRORISTS WHO KILL ISRAELIS. TAYLOR FORCE WAS A FORMER AMERICAN SOLDIER KILLED IN JERUSALEM BY A PALESTINIAN TERRORIST WHOSE FAMILY IS NOW GETTING WELFARE AND SUPPORT FROM THE PLO BECAUSE OF THEIR SON’S CRIME. REPUBLICANS ARE PUSHING THIS BILL BUT THE DEMOCRATS INCLUDING OSSOF ARE QUIET ABOUT THIS. SO MUCH FOR THE FAKE NEWS, BUT I DIGRESS

This has been a fascinating election cycle where residents of the 6th Congressional District have to replace Tom Price, now the Health and Human Resources Secretary, who in turn replaced Johnny Isakson, who is now a senior Senator, who replaced the iconic Newt Gingrich who became Speaker of the House passing legislation during one of the greatest economic boons in this country. Now the baton is being passed on to Karen.

Karen in her speech reviewed her past record which included being the Chairman of the Fulton County Commission where she overcame sexism, prejudice, and corruption. She kept her pledge to the voters not to raise property taxes and unlike her current opponent, she actually fought corruption leading to the arrest of a sheriff. She went on to become the Secretary of State where she helped draft and put in place a voter ID law which has been upheld by the Supreme Court and is the blueprint for other states. She also helped start the movement which led to the independent cites of Sandy Springs, Johns Creek and Dunwoody. Those ads which the Democrats have run showing Karen to be loose with our money and the county budget were rated by Politifact as FALSE. (More Fake News, thank you)

Facing off against Karen is Jon Ossof who never held elected office. Mr.Ossof is a very young, good looking man with a very thin portfolio of accomplishments. There have been several Jewish bloggers who have been touting Mr. Ossof’s support of Israel as a reason to vote for him. I am afraid this is very troubling. Jon worked for Hank Johnson for several years. Hank is known for not passing any substantial legislation in his five terms in Congress and despite Mr. Ossof’s association with him, Hank called Israeli settlers termites this past summer. What makes this whole episode sadder is not one elected Democratic Congressman condemned Hank. Hank is also nationally known for opposing sending additional Marines to the American island of Guam since the extra weight might tip the island over. Hopefully, Jon was instrumental in telling the Congressman that islands do not tip over with extra weight of people or there would be no more Manhattan.

Worse for the 6th District and Jews is that Jon would be beholden to the Democratic National Committee. This committee has overseen the most money in history being given to one party’s Congressional campaign. 90% of the money is from out of state. This whole movement is being overseen by the chairman, Tom Perez, who wants open borders and full citizenship to all 11 million illegal immigrants in the country. He has shown no concern for the flow of M 13 gangs into our country or the flow of opioids. Other than using profanity laced language in his speeches, Mr. Perez has never been known as a friend to Israel. The second in command at the DNC is Congressman Keith Ellison, who was a follower for years of Louis Farrakhan. Mr. Farrakhan is well known for calling Judaism a gutter religion among other less than complimentary comments. Mr. Ellison has never renounced his relationship with the Nation of Islam and has one of the worst pro Israel voting records in Congress. With these mentors and fundraisers, we Jewish voters are suppose to accept that Mr. Ossof, with no record in the past of standing up for Jewish causes or charities and who owes his entire to campaign to out of state forces, will stand with Israel against Iran and Syria.

Despite a more than 4 or 5 to 1 spending advantage, Karen and Jon are virtually tied in the polls. So the DNC has done what they are famous for. They are spending more money to bring in over a thousand carpetbaggers to Georgia to drag people from churches and nursing homes and escorting them to the polls. This is called the Chicago Way. If Karen wins this will be a real victory of experience, substance and a record over style and image.

I realize that since 2000, the United States has been split 50/50 with small swings changing elections and power. On the other hand, the United States and Georgia especially is entering a new era of prosperity. Karen supports private-public development of infrastructure. Jon wants to raise taxes to pay for this. Karen wants school choice and vouchers so that all students can go to Padaia like Jon did. Good schools should not be just for the wealthy is a core belief of Karen and the Republicans. Jon is supported by the teacher’s union who oppose charter schools. Karen wants to repatriate the 3 trillion dollars sitting in American companies overseas by lowering the corporate tax rates. This money can be put to creating jobs and infrastructure. Jon has been quiet on this topic as well. I truly enjoy the Jon Ossof commercials with the sleeves rolled up and the tie loosened. He is the Madison Avenue manufactured image of the man of the people. The question is which people. Jon does not live in the 6th District but will move in with his constituents if elected. I think we should vote for Karen and allow Jon to stay with his chosen friends and colleagues and not have to pay moving expenses. The choice is ours.
