Soaring Above the Icefields: A Journey into the Heart of Kluane
Nestled in the vast expanse of Canada’s Yukon Territory, Kluane National Park and Reserve is home to some of North America’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders. Among them stands Mount Logan, Canada’s highest peak at 19,551 feet, surrounded by a sea of glaciers and rugged mountains that have remained untouched for millennia.
Our journey to this remote sanctuary began on the legendary Alaska Highway, traveling by RV from Alaska into the Yukon and British Columbia. As we crossed borders and landscapes, we arrived in Haines Junction—a small, welcoming village that felt like the heart of the wild north. Just outside of town, we were graciously hosted at the Bear Lodge, nestled quietly in the boreal forest. There, in the stillness of the land, inner healing took root. This tranquil setting, surrounded by the majestic peaks of Kluane, offered us a sacred pause—a space to reconnect with ourselves and reflect on the resilience found in nature’s embrace.
Embarking on a flightseeing tour with Rocking Star Adventures, we boarded a three-seater Cessna from Haines Junction, ready to witness the majesty of this remote wilderness from above. As we ascended, the landscape transformed into a mesmerizing tapestry of icefields, with glaciers resembling ancient highways carving through the mountains.
Our 1.5-hour journey, known as the “King & Queen Tour,” took us over iconic peaks such as Mount Queen Mary and Mount King George, offering unparalleled views of the Lowell Icefields and the expansive Kaskawulsh Glacier. The experience was not just a visual feast but a profound connection to the raw beauty and power of nature.
