Michel M.J. Shore

Sonnet in Memory of Rabbi Adin Even Israel (Steinsaltz)

An enlightened soul, a resounding voice,

Soft but penetrating with truth profound,

Gave his multi-faceted mind by choice

To transmit knowledge of the ages, text-bound.

Thus, brought the generations past, present

And the future with the treasure to know,

Who they are, whence they came, and what was sent,

To guide life’s journey by which to grow.

The Tanach, Talmud and mystic annals,

A legacy translated with commentary,

The Revered Rabbi wrote of all channels

For justice and mercy never to be solitary.

The anatomy of the soul is but One,

The Revered Rabbi, thus, brought us closer to the One.
