Sun, Where Are You?

Like love itself you represent life and peace,
like a newborn cradled on mama’s knees,
like the safest of havens,
the brightest of dreams.

You’re a beacon of light
in the darkest of times.
You are warmth and renewal
when the world seems lost.

With laser beams of hope
you’d converse with me.
When my mind was dark
you uplifted me.

Your rays kissed my lashes,
turning tears into crystals,
a mesmerizing kaleidoscope effect
even with my eyes closed.

But what happens when the storms come?
What happens now?
I can’t see anything.
Did you know it would get this dark?

Sun, they say that you can’t be gone for long.
Please come back
to your rightful place,
rising, unwaveringly, above our world.
