Syria’s complex conflict
As soon as Israel’s ceasefire in Lebanon took effect, (and with Russia, and a greatly weakened Hezbollah, distracted in Ukraine and Lebanon), Syrian rebels launched a surprise offensive against Syrian, Russian, and Iranian forces.
Russian and Syrian planes bombed the rebels. Some Iranian-backed militias based in Iraq, moved into Syria to fight the rebels.
Many Syrian rebels have roots in Al Qaeda, and are reportedly anti-Israel (but some Syrian rebels claim to be pro-Israel). The opposing Syrian and Iranian forces are also anti-Israel. So anti-Israel terrorists are battling each other.
Turkey (afraid of Kurdish aspirations for independence) backs some of the rebels, because these rebels have attacked the Kurds. The US (which has forces in Syria) backs the Kurds; and the US has reportedly been bombing Iranian-backed militias (coming from Iraq). The Kurds have generally been pro-Israel.
Israel is concerned that hostile elements (newly-arrived Iranian militias from Iraq, and/or rebel forces) shouldn’t get too close to Israel’s border, and Iranian-backed forces shouldn’t transfer weapons to Hezbollah in Lebanon.
So:
Russia, Iran, Syria (regime), and Iranian-backed militias from Iraq, are on one side.
Rebels and Turkey are on the other side. (We’ll call it the ‘second’ side.)
Kurds and the US are on a third side.
The second and third sides are against the first side.
Part of the second side (Turkey and some rebels) are against the Kurds (in the third side).
It’s complicated.
Meanwhile:
Israel is fighting terrorists in Gaza and the West Bank, and Israel just intercepted a ballistic missile from Yemen. And Israel’s defense minister just warned Lebanon, that if the Lebanese don’t enforce the ceasefire, then all of Lebanon will be considered fair game.
Iran is trying to reach a deal with the EU (to reduce sanctions) before Trump assumes power.
The ICC and others are exhibiting blatant antisemitism against Israel and Jews. Some American politicians are threatening to hit the ICC with sanctions, and Western governments are pushing back against local antisemitism.
Trump just warned Hamas that they must free the hostages before his inauguration. As a result of this, Hamas reportedly wants to make a deal now.
By Divine providence, Iran’s fighting options are slowly but surely being depleted. Their proxies in Gaza and Lebanon have been decimated. Houthis in Yemen have received punishing blows (in retaliation for shooting projectiles against Israel). Iranian missile attacks against Israel were twice neutralized by Israel and its allies (a coalition which included some Arab countries). Iran is now watching its influence in Syria dissipate, and Iranian-backed militias from Iraq face possible elimination in Syria. And, as mentioned above, Iran faces the possibility of strong sanctions (and possible other action) from the incoming US administration.
Miraculously, events seem to be unfolding in ways that greatly benefit Israel.
The Jewish people have become more unified, battling a common enemy. Many Jews worldwide are strengthening their belief and trust in G-d to protect them, and to bring the final Redemption with Moshiach.
May it happen very soon.
