Take Care of the Widow, the Stranger and the Orphan

Take Care of the Widow, the Stranger and the Orphan

Torah Portion Mishpatim

Remember the widow, the orphan

And the stranger for you were all strangers

In a strange land. The Bible phrase most repeated,

To emphasize the plight of the vulnerable.

Take care of the widow, the orphan

And the stranger is the imperative.

Society is judged accordingly,

As to how it franchises the disenfranchised.

Their silent cry is the cry that shatters

The foundations of the world and brings God’s ire.

Nothing is of consequence in a nation

That does not care to make whole the broken.

Admitting, we are all wounded healers;

Only can we be made whole, if all become whole.
