Welcome to my Tech Leaders Interview Series, where I interview impactful leaders and ask them to share tips and techniques that have benefited them, both in their personal and professional lives.

This interview is with Moshe Fishman, Director of InsurTech at Reliance Global Group.

About Moshe:

31yo, married + a few, lives in New Jersey. He founded Tekeno Travel while in college, which provided clients business class tickets using minimal miles using predictable algorithms from airlines.

When the opportunity arose, Moshe jumped into a family insurance business to spearhead the operations while reestablishing it as Fishman Insurance Brokerage. In the transition from Travel to Insurance, Moshe instantly recognized that the industry was decades behind in innovation; paper insurance applications were still the standard. Moshe also founded Tekeno Financial that provides low-risk investment solutions using various insurance products.

This background of TravelTech planted the seed that insurance was begging for the interruption in the way Expedia redefined travel.

As the current Director of Insurtech at Reliance Global Group, Inc. (NADSDAQ: RELI), Moshe has successfully launched their insurance platform 5 Minute Insure is about simplifying the whole insurance comparing and purchasing process (Currently auto insurance, with more products coming soon), to have insurance compared and bound in 5 minutes.

What are your main productivity tips?

  • Pray.
  • Keep your eye on the goal. You know your vision best. There’s always what to learn, and sometimes you’ll need to pivot.
  • Consult with professionals in each area you are not an expert in. It will save time, money, and heartache.

What is your favorite drink?

Different forms of decaf tea sweetened with Splenda.

How do you deal with stress and anxiety?

Prayer and Studying the Gate of Trust by Bahya ibn Pakuda (Chovot HaLevavot) is very helpful. Having it a part of the daily routine is a great equilibrium.

Your tips for aspiring entrepreneurs?

The most important tip I advise is not to be dissuaded by well-meaning naysayers. I believe that many would-be entrepreneurs were scared off from executing their ideas by ‘helpers.’ It’s a skill to ignore the negative noise while you are pursuing your goals.

Who in the Tech industry would you like to meet for lunch?

Rich Barton – Founder of Expedia.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

Jerusalem, Israel.

 Why are you in Tech?

With my father David A Fishman, working on the first AT&T cell phone, advances in Tech were always on the front burner growing up. Since about 6 years old, I have modified the insides and outsides of computers. Secondly, consumers around the world are using Tech to enhance every aspect of their lives. Innovation in Tech can provide a global reach instantly. Bringing the insurance industry into the 21st century is very rewarding. You may soon see the question, “Why are you NOT in Tech?”
