The Islamic-Left

Epilogue

Atrocities are met with silence and blood libels

With the Islamist atrocities mounting, and children hostages like Ariel Bibas being murdered in cold blood and then paraded on stage in front of cheering crowds in Gaza, we would expect the humanist and leftist strain of politically aware people in the West (and in the world at large) to absolutely decry this modern form of bottomless evil, its modern-day antisemitic equal only to be found in the Holocaust. But no, we see no condemnation from the hard and humanist left. We mainly see blood libels directed at the Jews themselves of perpetrating “genocide” against the Palestinians. This blood libel comes from leftwing governments like Brazil, Spain and Ireland, left-wing activists and organizations like Amnesty International (which even caused the Israeli branch of Amnesty International to separate itself from its mother organization).

Auto-Antisemitic reaction

In the last chapter in this series we mentioned that there are different reactions among Jews to this leftwing resistance to the State of Israel. Some Jews jump on the bandwagon and join the Antisemitic war, like Jeffrey Sachs, who in an EU forum lately accused “Netanyahu” of being behind “all of America’s seven wars in the Middle East”. Just as this is an opportune time for regular Jew haters to come to the fore this is also a time when Auto-Antisemites like Jeffrey Sachs see their opportunity to distance themselves from their brethren and gain acceptance among their new worldly family. An Antisemite has more friends than a Jew has. American Jews like Finkelstein, Sachs, Chomsky and Fischer join the war against the Jews with something akin to Messianic fervor.

The Logical mistake theory

But more commonly I mentioned that many Jews view the Left-wing resistance to Israel as some sort of logical mistake (for the sake of convenience I will denote this “the logical mistake theory”). Many Jews, including myself, have looked in with horror as deeply Israelophobic attitudes are readily picked up and carried on by a new generation.

As the theory goes, even though the Left is blind to some of the realities of the situation and goes overboard in its support for the Palestinians, it generally “means well”, has its heart in the right place, but always joins the underdog, which in this conflict mostly has been the Palestinians. The logical mistake theory has it that this support for the Palestinians is just one of several causes that the Western Left has taken on, like the fight against the apartheid regime of South Africa or the opposition to the Vietnam War.

The logical mistake theory has it that the Jews are not smart enough at engaging the liberal elites in the West and are not smart enough at courting the developing countries who join the anti-Israeli parade in the UN for example. Another popular explanatory model is that Israel is inextricably linked to “American Imperialism”, by virtue of being such a strong ally of the United States and therefore gets the flack for that.

The fallacy of the logical mistake theory

Much has been written about Jewish involvement in leftwing projects around the world, in the 20th century and beyond.

I don’t seek to analyze every aspect of this long history here, but one thing should be abundantly clear: it is not for a lack of engagement in the liberal projects of the West that the Jew now increasingly finds himself shunned from these liberal circles, being branded “a fascist”.

The Jew has been heavily invested and over-represented in liberal causes like the fight for Civil Rights for blacks in the USA and the fight against apartheid in South Africa to name just a few famous examples. But also, in wider liberal-minded circles like American institutes for higher education, and the Hollywood movie industry, Jews are heavily over-represented.

If we then look at the fallout from these movements and social milieus: the post-apartheid South African regime, the left-wing branch of the Democratic party in the US, the political stance of many Hollywood celebrities (like Angelina Jolie and Susan Sarandon) as well as university protests at Columbia and Harvard among other places, we see exactly the opposite trajectory that we might expect: These bodies are exceedingly Israelophobic. Israel is a poisoned chalice in these quarters, and they turn against Israel again and again.

Not only does the Jew’s engagement in international bodies and national and international causes diminish Antisemitism, but sometimes the opposite seems to be the case.

Woke Antisemitism

One would have thought that the new multicultural, globalist economic system and the open-minded milieu of urban cultures and ex-pats moving about and mixing freely with each other, indeed the whole liberal post-Cold War world order, would have made Antisemitism irrelevant, but that has not been the case. Esau’s passions have not been dampened, they have merely mutated. The fixation with Jacob and his descendants remains.

What we have witnessed since October 7th is the latest incarnation of Esau’s hatred of Jacob: Woke Antisemitism.

The woke agenda is heavily associated with radical feminism, the LGBT+ agenda, multiculturalism, and identity politics (and all of the above lean on post-modernism, the philosophical foundation of the post truth era). This agenda has a strong connection to celebrity culture.

Again, it is Esau’s ultimate agenda to be free of moral limitations which is connected to the latest incarnation of Western ideologies. The woke agenda wants to be free to reinvent human identity and wants to do away with traditional values. These traditional western values ultimately stem from the Bible. Even the Christian Bible ultimately stems from the Hebrew Bible. The written Jewish covenant with G-d is the ultimate source of everything that the woke agenda seeks to destroy and replace.

Against the backdrop of everything we have touched upon above, it makes sense that the bearers of the woke agenda in the West would preoccupied with the Jews, and want to dethrone them from their moral high ground in order to do away with moral obligations and limitations.
