Previously named the Palestinian Post, the JPost has gone through many changes. A constant though, the past decades, was its fierce opposition against mean language and attitudes against anyone not heteronormative.
More importantly, often it was the first and too often the only news outlet in the Middle East reporting on vicious discrimination non-Straights suffer from the cradle to the grave. It had good connections in the Gay world and was never too shy to report its view on any anti-Gay or Gay news.
No more. How refreshing?
In the last 3 months, the JPost had 0 reports that mention homosexual or Gay. Zero. Compare that to the 30 days before that: 28 reports!
In an editors’ op-ed dated this Shabbat, the JPost now tells us ‘Racist and homophobic rhetoric’ is OK. It’s part of democratic Free Speech.
To add hurt to injury, from two days prior, it also published part two from ‘specialists’ about love and relationships, to honor upcoming Valentine’s Day, just like last year, only dealing with Jewish heterosexual couples.
We all know that heterosexual marriage is in trouble but, as Rabbi Boteach used to point out, you can hardly blame the Gays for that, as they are the ones banging on the doors of the State demanding marriage equality.
What is going on at the JPost? Their alliance with the Gays was always very thin. They have no openly Gay reporter. But at least, they wrote as allies.
Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
