At election day, the US will have hundreds of thousands of COVID-19 deaths, not only through presidential incompetence but demonstrably via the clown-in-chief exacerbating the epidemic.
At election day 2020, the US will have a record-high unemployment, have walked away from a Wall Street crash several times, have seen with their own eyes how economic support all went to the rich and powerful while the needy got nothing again, despite continuous promises to the contrary by the fool in chief.
At the presidential elections of 2020, the US will be suffering from unprecedented anxiety and polarization with White Nationalism, racism, and anti-Semitism at historic levels leaving many former Trump-voters embarrassed, eager to distance themselves from the joker in chief.
It would be one thing for Trump to lose but to lose from Joe Biden is like losing a race against a snail. There is no greater embarrassment.
Meanwhile, the rich and corrupt can’t take such a gamble. They cannot go into the election with the almost certain outcome that their gigantic new tax breaks would be undone, deregulations would be deregulated, record revenues for industries as the pharmaceutical, weapon redirected.
But how can the Republican Party change its candidate without being seen as weak losers not worth voting for?
Their only hope is someone so different and spectacular that Trump will be forgotten in two seconds flat. A dark-horse candidate who’s charming, would be the US’s first female president (pretending being progressive while having a woman leader of State is totally common already around the globe), a non-White (replacing anti-racism Biden with colorblindness), and someone capable of sidestepping any enmity toward Trump.
I don’t know if Nikki Haley could say no when the Republicans have no other alternative. She clearly can do all the above and more. She’ll take a guy VP for the men who need a fella to identify with. They could cancel the elections because she’ll win hands-down.
Of course, the Republican party would take a big risk with her as president. They certainly would lose the Senate already. She may restore the Paris Accords, international diplomacy (lowering war profits), install healthcare for all, institute a fair minimum wage, outlaw White nationalism, demilitarize the police and the public, return credit to science, but hey — what does it risk losing with a looming Biden presidency? She might even pull off an election platform good enough for Andrew Yang as VP.
And so one keeps dreaming of a better future. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. History in the making — never a boring moment.
