I remember how scary I found it when JK Rowling’s Harry Potter books were sold by the millions into the hands of countless youths delirious with delight. After all, the final volume was not yet written.
What if she lets her hero commit suicide? What if, in the end, she would equate the evil and the good forces? What if she let evil win? What if she would cynically convey to her readers that opposition to evil is futile?
Luckily, there was no such ending. Although some good actors died, goodness prevailed.
Now the author was not only rich but also famous. What would she do with her fame? Luckily she has stood up against antisemitism. Again, she stood at the right side of history. But celebrity status doesn’t guarantee goodness. What a danger when unelected, unselected, unchecked people get so much power.
And now it happened. Probably and hopefully from being ignorant about transgender issues (it can be complicated), she has supported someone fired for a transphobic position. Let’s hope this will be largely ignored by the most vulnerable under her fans. I recommend following this vlogger for getting all the information you could ever need about trans-issues.
