The Secret Place of Thunder
“…I answered you in the secret place of thunder…” -Psalm 81:8
In the deep and secret place of our heart, there is a stirring. There is a powerful illumination in the darkness. Within our innermost being that others cannot see, there is a rain that is longing to break forth. Even in the great struggle with the darkness that constantly attacks us, there is a brilliant lightning that flashes and booms across the dark night of our soul. There is that “secret place”, which is that innermost part of us that is known only to us and God. It is that part of us that others do not see, even those closest to us. This innermost and secret place of us is often marred and disfigured by our all too human and fallen condition. And yet that redemptive rumbling is still heard and that stirring of the soul is still felt. It is both God’s call and His enigmatic answer to us. He makes our weary human heart into a “place of thunder”. That rumbling becomes a thunder and lightning that bursts forth, igniting a fire in your heart that brings a great light into this often dark world. That thunderous rumbling in your heart is that creative genius and courage within you that often lies dormant, waiting to be awakened. It is a light that is longing to shine in this world. The thunder is that inner call to courageous faith, a faith that demands risk and a ruthless destruction of all comfort zones and limited ways of thinking. The thunder births the lightning that comes from consistent action in the face of countless adversities. God’s answer to you is a revolution within the secret place of your heart, which must happen before your great thunder is heard in the public place.
