We rely on the democratic press, and they betrayed us
Don’t get me wrong. I’m glad Herschel Walker lost his bid for Georgia Senator. As long as the GOP is a safe haven for bigots, any Republican should lose. And, the forces of democracy and honesty could use an extra Senate seat. But, when I saw his concession speech, I was shocked he said no incoherent word. Consistently, CNN had distorted him into an idiot.
So, the left-wing news, and ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel, cherrypicked his many misdeeds and moments of rambling to portray him untruthfully as fully inadequate. MSNBC too seemed to run an anti-Walker campaign. The Washington Post and Trevor Noah sites seemed more truth-bound.
He could be (allegedly) a terrible father, husband, and—let’s throw in—Senator, but not for unfairly picked soundbites. Fox News does the same with Presidents Bill, Hillary, Barak, and Joe. I expect CNN and ABC to be better than that. Herschel Walker should lose races on his own demerits and not thanks for baselessly hostile coverage. And we, the consumers of programs, should not have to doubt the news they present us with.
They told us after the election that Walker had distanced himself from insurrection denial. He lost by 91,4 thousand votes. Not nothing. But he still received 1,7 million votes, likely largely despite Trump’s endorsement.
I know already that, when CNN gives us an ‘analysis’ of the ME situation, they have their permanent anti-Zionists confuse hatred, hate speech, lies, and conspiracy theories and us. But re: US politics, I expect honesty.
I don’t think Walker deserved one vote from anyone. But reporting his steady record of bigotry, lying, and hypocrisy should have sufficed.
Don’t spoon-feed the viewers/readers Hitler was evil. Tell us what he stood for (murdering opposition, ‘inferior’ people), and trust us, we get it.
Pro-equality newsrooms and commentators should work with integrity. They are not priests who need to bring us messages of what they think Democracy wants from us. Some soul-searching seems in order here.
