Justice Speaks Louder Than Slander

A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog titled Echoes of Loyalty: When Nuance Becomes Betrayal. In it, I shared something deeply personal. I wrote about how devastated I was after learning that a dog had been brutally abused during a raid on the Palestinian village of Atara near Ramallah. The footage was horrifying. The suffering of that animal affected me more than many political controversies ever could.

Animals are innocent. They do not choose sides. They do not carry ideologies. They do not spread propaganda or harbor political ambitions. They simply exist, trusting humans to treat them with care. When that trust is violated, it strikes me at the core of my being.

Perhaps that is why the incident shook me so profoundly. Seeing an Israeli involved in such cruelty felt like a betrayal of the values I have spent years defending. For a moment, I questioned everything. I knew intellectually that one criminal does not represent an entire nation, but emotionally I struggled. I found myself wondering whether I was fighting for the wrong side if such acts could occur without consequences.

Today, I am relieved, and even proud, to say that justice has spoken.

Israel Police arrested a Jewish teenage suspect from Ma’ale Adumim who is accused of repeatedly clubbing the guard dog during the attack. According to police, he had been evading authorities since the incident. The dog survived, and the suspect was brought before a court while police sought an extension of his detention.

More important than the arrest itself was the message that accompanied it. The police stated that they would act with zero tolerance toward violence against both humans and animals.

That matters.

It matters because justice is not measured by whether crimes occur. Crimes occur in every country on earth. Every society has its criminals, its extremists, its abusers, and its monsters. Justice is measured by what happens afterward.

Does society excuse the crime?

Does it look away?

Does it protect the perpetrator because he belongs to the right group?

Or does it pursue accountability regardless of identity?

In this case, Israel chose accountability.

This is not the first time.

One of the most famous examples is the case of Israeli soldier Elor Azaria. In 2016, Azaria was filmed shooting an incapacitated Palestinian terrorist in Hebron. The incident divided Israeli society. Many viewed him as a young soldier operating under immense pressure after witnessing a terrorist attack. Others argued that the rules of engagement had been violated and that a lawful democracy cannot allow soldiers to act outside the law.

The debate was intense and emotional. Yet despite public pressure, despite political controversy, and despite the sympathy many Israelis felt for the young soldier, the military court convicted him. He was sentenced to prison.

Whether one agrees with the verdict or not is almost secondary. The important fact is that Israel investigated, prosecuted, and sentenced one of its own.

That is what the rule of law looks like.

We see similar examples throughout Israeli society. Israeli politicians have been investigated, prosecuted, and imprisoned. Former government ministers have faced criminal charges. A former prime minister served time in prison. Judges, police officers, and military personnel have all been subjected to scrutiny when accused of wrongdoing.

No country is perfect. Israel certainly is not. It is a nation filled with arguments, disagreements, and controversies. It is a country where every issue is debated passionately and often publicly. Mistakes are made. Crimes are committed. Human beings fail.

Yet there is a profound difference between a society that acknowledges wrongdoing and seeks justice, and one that denies wrongdoing altogether.

Too often, Israel is portrayed through a lens that ignores this reality. International headlines focus on accusations while overlooking accountability. Critics speak as though wrongdoing by an Israeli automatically reflects the character of the entire nation. They rarely acknowledge the courts, the investigations, the convictions, and the legal processes that follow.

The arrest of the teenager accused of abusing that dog reminds us of something important. The true measure of a country is not whether evil exists within it. Evil exists everywhere. The true measure is whether that country confronts evil when it appears.

For me, this case was personal. The suffering of that innocent animal almost shattered my confidence. It made me question whether the values I believed in were truly being upheld.

Now I have my answer.

The suspect was found.

The law acted.

Justice was pursued.

And once again, Israel demonstrated something many of its critics refuse to see: it is a nation governed not by perfection, but by law.

The hatred and slander directed at Israel cannot change that reality. Facts remain facts. A criminal committed an act of cruelty. The authorities pursued him. The courts will determine his fate.

That is how a civilized society functions.

So today, I am not only happy for the dog that survived. I am happy because justice survived as well.

Ladies and gentlemen, they got him.

About the Author
CEO of Time to Stand Up for Israel, a nonprofit organization with a powerful mission: to support Israel and amplify its voice around the world. With over 200,000 followers across various social media platforms, our community is united by a shared love for Israel and a deep commitment to her future. My journey as an advocate for Israel began early. When I was 11 years old, my father was deployed to the Middle East through his work with UNTSO. I had the unique experience of living in both Syria and Israel, and from a young age, I witnessed firsthand the contrast in cultures and realities. That experience shaped me profoundly. Returning to the Netherlands, I quickly became aware of the growing wave of anti-Israel sentiment — and I knew I had to speak out. Ever since, I’ve been a fierce and unapologetic supporter of Israel. I’m not religious, but my belief is clear and unwavering: Israel has the right to exist, and Israel has the duty to defend herself. My passion is rooted in truth, love, and justice. I’m a true Zionist at heart. From my first breath to my last, I will stand up for Israel.
