If they tells you, ‘You’re a bigot’ (racist, sexist, homophobic, snobbish), I hope you realize that this is not for you to deny or get defensive about.
It would be easier if it were phrased as, ‘What you said/wrote/did is bad,’ because that clarifies that your action and not your person is deputed.
The easiest would be when someone said, ‘I find what you said/wrote/did bad’ because then you could ask for an explanation, learn, and say sorry.
But in any case, responding, ‘Not true’ is the best way not to learn and not to heal your relationship with the speaker or the world.
There is one glaring exception. When it comes to the Jews. Then, the standard reaction is denial.
No, I don’t hate Jews, only Zionists.
No, I don’t hate Zionists, only the State of Israel.
No, I don’t hate the State of Israel, only Netanyahu.
No, I don’t hate Netanyahu, only Ben Gvir and Smotrich.
No, I don’t hate Ben Gvir and Smotrich, only what Israel does in Gaza.
And that then refers to what Chamas and Pallywood claim we do in Gaza.
The charge to be denied by ‘the accused’ with a Jew-hatred suspicion seems to be, ‘I’m not Hitler, I’m not a monster.’ But that’s not the issue!
And accusations of sexism are not countered with, ‘I didn’t rape anyone.’
People baselessly and easily call Netanyahu a murderer, war criminal, and baby killer but feel deeply offended when they’re called Antisemites.
So, it’s not that they are against calling people monsters. They believe there are monsters, but not them. In fact, I lost friends of decades who would rather brand me a monster than ponder if they are Jew-loving.
Many modern Antisemitic tropes are meant to contradict the evil of the Holocaust. No one can accuse European Gentiles of being monsters if Jews or Israeli Jews do ‘the same’ or ‘worse.’ So, too eagerly they lie or believe the lies that Jews murder babies, commit genocide, and are war criminals.
How hard is it to admit: Yes, I have my prejudices against Jews; No, I’m still not over the Holocaust and my European or Christian guilt; Yes, I’m sure the media lie to me about Israel; Yes, I see Israelis as morally inferior.
Most people accused of being bigots battle guilt feelings.
Most people accused of animosity toward the Jews feel indignant. Moi?
But it’s also a problem that those who believe in the Jews stay passive. Why is that?
Massive demonstrations after the murder of George Floyd.
Massive demonstrations for Chamas after it slaughtered innocent Jews.
Tiny demonstrations for Israel, if at all.
No peep when only Israel acts against a genocide on the Druze in Syria.
So many Christians parade their ‘love’ for Jews as a badge of achievement.
Men never boast about not being sexists.
Jew-hatred isn’t a belief or opinion, just like 1=1=3 is not. Just an untruth.
If Gentiles want to be chosen too, they need to improve very fast. As the Hebrew Bible says half a dozen times, ‘Those who will bless you will be blessed; those who will curse you will be cursed.’ Blame the Auth^r.
