The first US Spending Bill of 2019 is supposed to be a compromise and is sold as such. Not so fast. It more looks like a victory for Trump. With the Republicans complaining about it to pretend that they gave in a lot too.
The military spending got a big priority. $ 700,000,000,000 (53.8% of the whole bill). This is paying the rich, the weapon industry.
More than a dollar for the imaginary Wall; 1.299.999.999 more dollars (0.1% of the whole bill), to be precise. The rest the President will try to collect through “emergency” measures. Supplemented by billions more for further “border security” measures – to keep people out. All hidden by all the Wall talk
Billions for bipartisan projects were included, like for infrastructure improvement, fighting the opioid crisis and $ 200 million defense help for Israel (0.015% of the total bill – 1.5% from 1%). This all only sits in a compromise bill to hide the rest of it.
Now, what ought to be Democratic concerns:
Dreamers. Can go on dreaming. Thrown under the bus. Again. Got nothing. There is money to keep people out, no money to keep people in. Racism in full action.
Saving Obama Care – nothing.
Gun control. Some token measure.
Green economy. Nothing.
I just need to ask: Where is the compromise? Where were the Democratic negotiators? Beats me. Trump is still winning.
