Former Homeland Security Analyst
The Karnovsky family, a #Jewish family who immigrated from Lithuania to the #UnitedStates, took pity on a 7-year-old boy who came from a Keshet Yom family and brought him home. They let him help them with various jobs and he stayed and spent the nights at the family home, they treated him for the first time in his life kindly and lovingly. When he went to bed, Mrs. Karnowski sang to him Russian lullabies she sang to her young children. He learned to sing and play some Russian and Jewish songs himself. In time the child became the adopted son of the family.
Mr. Karnofsky gave him money to purchase his first musical instrument. Later, when he became a professional musician and composer, the boy used the Jewish melodies he heard as inspiration to compose some of his songs. The little boy grew up and wrote a book about the Jewish #family that adopted him. He spoke Yiddish with pride and in memory of his new family and until the end of his life he wore a Star of David necklace and said that in this family he learned to “live a real life and with determination.”
