This is why we need a left-handers day
August 13th was the international left-handers day, and very few knew about it. In fact certain persons who knew felt it was unneccessary or at the very best a waste of time. Contrary to whatever prevailing notion that exists, here’s why we need a left-handers day, and why you need it too:
Firstly, in certain parts of Africa, being left-handed isn’t only viewed as a defect, but also as an evil omen, and parents as well as relatives of such persons view it as their moral/religious responsibilities to right such biological wrongs. This form of discrimination haven’t only been entrenched and seen as a norm, but even in certain elementary and middle schools, left handers are singled out by teachers disciplined, even abused by the authorities and forced to use their right hands; along other forms of funny traditions which have developed around the use of a left hand, for example in some African cultures, using the left hand to either eat, drink or pick certain objects is viewed as a sign of membership to a secret cult, and also in some cultures too, any who is guilty of murder is forced to use the left hand as a sign of public ridicule; futhermore giving or reciving an object from an elder with the left hand is viewed as a great sign of disrespect.
Secondly, the world as it seem, is built for the righthanded, little wonder why the left handers have to sometimes struggle through almost everything, and believe me, there’s no need canvassing for equality because left handers are just about 7% of the worlds population. Quite a small figure though, and the proof of the uniqueness of these folks. Fitting into a righthanded world isnt so much of an easy task to do for a lefty.
For example regular items ranging from the school desks, notebook and even the scissors amongst others are fitted for righthanders, little wonder a lefty may find it uncomfortable in adjusting to their usage.
And thats not all, handshakes must always be with the right hand, well no one’s got a problem with that too right?
Thirdly, several researchers believe that one out of every 100 lefthanded person faces the risk of a potential mental illness, most especially schizophrenia, and whats distressing is the fact that schizophrenia is incurable and only can be managed. Paranoia is also a threat of course to those in regions where lefthandedness is seen as evil; besides there are psychological effects too for those within this region ranging from low self esteem, to a “Neurotic need,” for some who try to cope
Well the goodnews then is;
Left handed folks are very creative and are naturally gifted with a high IQ as well, thanks to their dominant use of the righthand side of the brain, which is why some say “only lefthanders are in their rightmind.”
And not to say the least, left handers are extremely rational too, of course folks like the philosopher Aristotle, the artist Michelangelo, the scientists Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein, revered leaders Napoleon Bonaparte and Mahatma Ghandi,Business moguls Bill Gates and Mark Zukerberg, American presidents George H.W Bush, Barack Obama and several others across all existing societal frontiers, including the Prime Minister Benjamin Nathanyahu, are all lefthanded folks.
Left handers got great potentialities too, as they’ve got the abilities to use both hands much more than righhanders can, and also, they’ve got great incredibilities hanging right before them, like been perfect marksmen too.
So the next time you see a left-hander, give that folk a thumbs-up, cause they are extra-ordinarily special.
