Three Moral Truths
On October 7th, 2023, the world experienced its most horrific attack since 9/11. The Iran-backed terror group known as Hamas invaded the State of Israel overnight. They fired over 5,000 rockets from Gaza and dispatched militants from the ground, sea, and air. Over 1,400 Israelis have been killed, with more than 3,000 injured and 200 taken hostage. In what some Israelis are calling their Pearl Harbor, they were forced to watch in horror while on the holy day of Simchat Torah innocents were slaughtered in their homes. Women and small children were ripped from their families screaming in terror, begging for their lives. The dead were paraded through the street, their bodies desecrated. All the while, the whole world could watch on social media while Hamas celebrated its barbarism.
Abroad, something else has come to pass. While much of the adult world has united in condemning these atrocities, unfortunately, the same cannot be said for many young people. Across social media and college campuses, there has been a strong effort to defend the indefensible. College students with little understanding of history have attempted to paint the two sides as moral equivalents. As if that weren’t disgusting enough, some have gone so far as to voice complete support for the invasion and blame Israel for starting this war. To my misguided fellow youth, I have three messages of my own.
My first message is for all who sympathize with these architects of terror and destruction. There is a right and a wrong. When you forget this, you disgrace yourselves. I remind you today how history remembers those who condoned 9/11. The very same groups who danced in the streets in celebration of Al-Qaeda’s horrific attack dance again today. When you praise these attacks, you publicly support genocide. And that is evil.
My next message is for Hamas. You have crossed a line in a fashion that none of us foresaw. You took both Israel and the world by surprise with your viciousness and your cruelty. Your moment of victory has passed. This act of tremendous cowardice will never be forgotten. You will pay a price of cataclysmic proportions. You have lit the fire in the hearts of the Jewish people that will burn your regime to the ground. When you crossed the border on October 7th, you signed your death warrant.
This final message is for the State of Israel. You’ve endured more baseless attacks and more questions to your legitimacy since 1948 than any other nation in history. For decades you have sought to win this war with the pen rather than the sword. You’ve offered countless two-state solutions and peace treaties from the day of your inception. But if October 7th proved anything, it is that your enemies do not care. It is not humans that you are up against, but monsters. They took women and children from their homes. They took Holocaust survivors as hostages. They raped, tortured, and slaughtered civilians, going so far as to burn and behead children. It is time to put down the pen. Bring an end to this reign of terror and monstrosities in Gaza. And take no prisoners. The world is watching.
