Throwing The Election and Other Wild Stuff

Okay, I get it now.  Donald Trump is not losing his mind or just a simple megalomaniac, but rather he is trying to throw the election.  He wants the Democrats to totally sweep the midterm elections so that he can spend the next two years raving like a lunatic and blaming someone else for the failure of the nation.  There are people out there in this world who are empowered by the ability to complain about others, rather than doing anything positive themselves.

If President Trump is not trying to hand a tremendous win to the Democrats in the midterm election, then why is he now saying that the United States should own Greenland? Why does he hate the rest of the world simply because he did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize?  He did not exactly say that, but he said something similarly bizarre.

Not only that, but the ICE situation in Minneapolis could be handled much more smoothly.  After all, illegal aliens, especially if they are criminals, have no place in the United States.  Most people agree with that, but the scenes of overly energetic federal officials and incompetent bumbling state employees do not augur well for the man at the top. It is true that Minnesota, through its fraudulent money hungry schemes, benefiting mainly Somalis, is a repulsive disgrace.   Rather than capitalizing on that in a way that is consistent with the rule of law, Donald Trump is doing everything he can to squander the opportunity to look like a good and competent cop.

Whenever Donald Trump is right to address a wrong, he manages to do it in the most alienating way possible.  Greenland and Minneapolis are just two examples of how the President has ruined every opportunity to take advantage of an opportunity.  The President just appointed a “Peace Board” for Gaza populated with the enemies of the West who do not want peace.  Rather, the “board members” have made it clear that they seek the destruction of the Jewish State.  Now how crazy is that, given that Israel has waged a long and bloody war just to survive as an independent democratic entity in the Middle East?

The nation is both paralyzed and polarized by the President.  Unfortunately, that is not necessarily anything new in national politics, except to the extreme that seems to be part of the President’s daily dose of drama.

One cannot help but be convinced that the President truly enjoys the emotional high that comes from badgering, bullying, and blustering about evil others.  There are plenty of people like that in world.

The President will also hurt himself in the courts.  The continued use of tariffs as arbitrary weapons of war will get him nowhere.  The courts undoubtedly will cut down or maybe even eliminate the President’s use of tariffs without Congressional approval.   Not every event is an emergency just because the President thinks it is or claims that it is.  For the President to impose tariffs on European countries who oppose his seizure of Greenland is hardly an emergency, and no judge will think that it is.

What the President will do is empower Russia and China to invade whomever they wish, alienate a broad swath of Americans, and totally tick off our allies.  That will not do any good for the United States, the Republican Party, or even the prestige hungry President.

Taking Greenland by invasion?  How could that possibly be necessary when Greenland has permitted as many military bases as the United States has ever wanted to have and has cooperated in mineral exploration.  Is it about the Nobel Peace Prize, or perhaps just about real estate acquisition?  Then again, when the United States purchased Alaska from the Russians in 1867for $7.2 million, it was derisively referred to as “Seward’s Folly.”  Now both Alaska and Hawaii are considered crucial to America’s international interests.

It may not be any sin to be nuts, but it is inconvenient for those toiling away truly trying to make America great.

The next question is whether the Democrats will squander their opportunity by having candidates imitate the likes of the “squad” in Congress or the new socialist Mayor of New York City.  Democrats, along with their Republican kinfolk, have shown an amazing ability to totally blow the opportunity to govern responsibly when they have that chance.  It is almost like the political parties pick the biggest idiot in the class that we all tried to avoid when we were in high school.  “Let that idiot do the job, since nobody else wants it.”  Unfortunately, most of the candidates who are chosen win in primaries based upon the wishes of us, the voters!  As usual, it is the poor schlimazel who is at fault for the screw ups of the bigwigs.

Usually, a schlimazel is created by a schlemiel.  In other words, a mess is typically birthed by somebody who is an inept bungler.  You just cannot beat the Yiddish description for what is going on in this country right now.

Yiddish is a terrific, almost forgotten, language.  It is a combination of German and Hebrew.  Most German speakers, including my Amish friends, can understand Yiddish.  I have tried Yiddish in Israel, where Hebrew is the national language, and there is less understanding there of Yiddish than in its traditional birthplace in Eastern Europe.

A long time ago, I authored an article entitled Yiddish for Politicians.  Maybe it is time for me to revisit the application of those terms to our current politicians.

Unfortunately, most of the Yiddish terms that would apply to the current political environment cannot be printed in a family newspaper.

It is likely that the nation will continue to bumble and stumble along until the electorate, unpersuaded by the power of political negativity and huge amounts of donor money, decide to select politicians who may be more boring but are able to act with a modicum of seychel.  That is a term meaning intelligence and common sense.  Another good term to learn is choschmah, meaning someone who is wise.
