If you’re a proud Right-winger, forget, for a moment, your heart-felt antipathy against the Left, and look at plain reality.
Basically, Left means: you want every person to have a decent life. What’s wrong with that? Why has that not become the dominant political stream everywhere? Two reasons.
One. Nothing human is strange to Left-wingers. Intraileally, driven by correct idealism, they tend to turn into bullies and dictators too. As my mother’s father used to say: Communism is the most ideal system but has one flaw: It needs to be executed by people. He was almost a rabbi when the Nazis gassed him in Auschwitz.
Two. Working for all people, you must believe in all people being worthy, loveable, and good. Well, some people are not up to something good and must be mistrusted and stopped. The flower-power mood is addictive. You feel half a saint when you proclaim everyone good. Except for the people who disagree with you. Or, maybe even them.
However, if you don’t deal with some people greatly perpetrating evil, you abandon their victims. As the Sages conclude (in another context): If you’re good to the bad, you’ll end up bad to the good.
No, Putin, Trump, Abbas, and Xi are not nice people. The more you are nice to them, the more they’ll disrespect you and will want to kill you.
White House is ‘deeply disappointed’ that Abbas rather works with dictator Putin than with democratic Biden. That’s like a vegetarian being deeply upset that lions still don’t want to eat grass.
Another flavor of this being out of touch with the world is the erroneous belief that dictators want to murder, try genocide, and imperialism because the democratic nations set them off. As if, when treated with kid gloves, they would have stayed nice. It’s the opposite. The more you’re nice to them, the worse they get. Yet, don’t think that if you would have been tougher on them, they’d have behaved! Don’t blame the victims.
If you’re a lefty, watch your trends to be a (woke) dictator and to be naïve.
